Greater Columbus Arts Council

The arts play an important role in creating vibrant communities. The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program is designed to encourage community participation in the arts by supporting local organizations that provide opportunities for people to get out and get involved.

 

The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program awards grants three times a year. The following groups received funding during the final round of 2008. For 2009 funding opportunities, please visit gcac.org.

 

 

African American and African Studies Community Extension Center

Amount Awarded: $1,000

Project Title: Agents for Change Through Creative Talents

Project Description: Six month arts-based civic engagement program for teens of Columbus Africentric School

 

Alton Darby ES

Amount Awarded: $1,000

Project Title: From the Ground Up

Project Description: Creation of outdoor amphitheatre and garden classroom

 

City of Columbus Community Relations Commission

Amount Awarded: $425

Project Title: Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School Arts Contest

Project Description: MLK Jr. Day art contest, open to Franklin County middle school students

 

Columbus Blues Alliance

Project Title: TradFest 2009

Project Description:  Day-long blues festival, focusing on acoustic and traditional forms of blues music

 

Columbus Civic Theatre

Project Description: Production of the musical The Fantasticks

Project Description: Drumming class for afterschool program at Etna Road Elementary School in Whitehall

 

First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church

Project Title: Storytelling Circle

Project Description: Series of family storytelling and drumming performances for the Olde Towne East community

 

First Unitarian Universalist Church

Amount Awarded: $2,000

Project Title: Universe: Diverse Music You Want To Hear

Project Description: Concert series and community outreach events for Northland area neighborhoods

Project Title:  Between Eye and I

Project Description:  Site-specific contemporary dance performance taking place in Franklin Park

 

Fort Hayes PTA

Amount Awarded: $1,000

Project Title: Fort Fest 2009

Project Description:  Annual art and music festival on the Fort Hayes campus

 

Friends of Art for Community Enrichment

Amount Awarded: $1,000

Project Title:  Celebrating African-American Performing Arts

Project Description:  Funding will support the African-American Chautauqua, and an instrumental music program for K-12 students

Project Description:  Production of "A Wing and a Prayer" - a community theatre piece designed to raise awareness of health issues

Project Description:  Arts learning project about the history of the school's namesake, and Westerville’s historical connections and contributions to the Underground Railroad
