Our girl, lead singer of the Bangles, is the ringleader of a trio of femme rommates. They and their two surf-dude friends are to graduate in one day, so all must make proper arrangements for moving out and into the real world, and try to answer a few unresolved questions inthe meantime.
Dedee is engaged to a well-off, but buffoonish sales rep; Susanna is in love with one of the surf dudes, but becomes infatuated with the newly-arrived and famous alumnus Michael; Joan just wants her video docu-diary of their last day together to enable her to pass her last class and allow her to graduate with her friends.
Most of the graduates-to-be gather at the nearby beach for one last party, and all of our heroes attend, with varying results. Some party hearty, some become somber over their impending seperation, some become angry and belligerent-but they all drink-they drink a lot.
Dedee goes with her man to a nearby hotel for a celebratory liassion, Joan follows, and even Susanna eventually comes along as she finds out that Michael is also staying there (there`s a very sexy scene as she gets all dressed up and ready to go, and all that. Hey Susanna, does your mother know what you`re doing? Oh, that`s right, she`s directing this film! Never mind!).
They all end up in the hoosegow on false prostitution charges and must bail themselves out in time for graduation. Meanwhile, the surf-dudes answer questions of their own on the last beach they`ll ever see together, and actually hug for half a second. One will go on to a normal lifestyle, and the other will pursue the highest waves forever, dude!
All the appropriate parties reach their places just in time for graduation, and our girl Susanna gives a killer valedictory address.
They had the time of their lives...
Personal note: this was about the first movie on cable that made YMP fully realize the potential charm of FFTTM`s.
