Texas Eagle Route Capsule History

Historically, the Texas Eagle was a Missouri Pacific train running between St. Louis, MO and Laredo, TX, via Little Rock, AR, Palestine, TX and San Antonio, TX. Today's Amtrak train runs between Chicago and San Antonio over a hodge-podge of lines, mostly now part of the Union Pacific system, Chicago to St. Louis is over the former Chicago & Alton railroad, St. Louis to Texarkana over the former MP (the train's original route), Texarkana to Fort Worth over the former Texas & Pacific, Forth Worth to Temple over the BNSF (former Santa Fe Texas Chief route), Temple to Taylor over the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) line from Kansas City to San Antonio, and Taylor to San Antonio again over the train's original MP routing.
