Beaumont to Orange

At Langham Road (MP 282.3), where there is extra track on the south side, the ex-MP route from Houston trails in from the west-northwest, Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, and the speed limit falls to 40 mph. Sunnyside Yard lies along the south side of the line (variably, four tracks at the west end, then three at a bridge over drainage, then five at a road bridge overhead, there are crossovers at Station 4 (MP 280.7), triple N-S road bridges overhead at the east end of the yard, where the yard is again down to three tracks, crossovers at Tower 74 (MP 280.4), where a stub of the former MoPac line heads east-northeast and the main line turns east, and at Station 6 (MP 280.3), the Amtrak station (the depot has disappeared between 1998 and 2006) on the north side of the line at Beaumont (MP 280.1), where the speed limit is 30 mph.

There are six yard tracks on the south side plus two more and the passenger track on the north side at the station, a bridge over a street below, then new track heading off to the southeast, crossovers at Station 7A (MP 279.3), where connectors in the northwest and southwest quadrants go off to the northeast and southeast, respectively, there are flat crossings with two or three separate BNSF lines at BNSF Xing (MP 279.2), where the speed limit is 20 mph, a grade crossing just east of the BNSF lines, extra track on the south side, then another track trails in on the south side and joins into it. Two plus tracks trail in on the south side. The line is on a viaduct that crosses over two side streets and an acute-angle divided highway, and there is a wye on the southeast corner at Wall Street (MP 278.0), where the line turns northeast, followed by two grade crossings, a bridge over a main street below, a grade crossing, the civic center on the east side, and a grade crossing.

There is a flat crossing with a local line, with connectors in the west and north quadrants, at Neches River (MP 278.1), a bridge over a line on the south bank to a harbor to the east, and a through truss over the Neches River, Tower 31 (also at MP 278.1?), where the Kansas City Southern line continues straight ahead, a spur heads off to the southeast, there is a KCS detector at their MP 276.2 and the Sunset Route turns east-northeast, a grade crossing, the spur trails back in on the east side, a bridge over a waterway, a bridge over a dirt road, a dirt road grade crossing, and Korf (MP 276.4), where the speed limit is 50-40 and a spur north from North Star Steel trails in, followed by a dirt road grade crossing.

The line is now into low-lying grass and croplands, interspersed with wide slow-moving waterways, turning east past a detector at MP 273.9, where the speed limit has risen to 70-60, in the piney woods, past a grade crossing, a road briefly alongside to the south, the 10,500 ft. siding on the north side at Connell (MP 272.7-270.7), where there is extra track for Trinity Industries at MP 271.6, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a major road grade crossing, a grade crossing, Terry, Bobsher (MP 265.5), where an industrial track trails in from the south, a bridge over a waterway, a bridge over drainage, a detector at MP 263.6, Tulane (MP 263.0), a major highway bridge overhead, the 9,800 ft. siding on the south side at Francis (MP 261.4-259.3), with three extra tracks on the south side, and a bridge over a stream, UP Xing (MP 259.3), where another line (two tracks) crosses at grade, two grade crossings, a bridge over a river, and Orange Siding (MP 257.9-256.1), where the speed limit is 35 mph, with two grade crossings, an old depot on the south side, and two more grade crossings within the siding.
