Sebring to Miami

From Sebring (MP 867.2), where the ex-ACL line trailed in on the west side, and the Sebring sub. (ex-ACL) departs on the west side, continuing south while the main line turns east, single track, CTC, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freight trains, but with a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 866.5 and MP 867.5, through Sebring, and a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 867.5 and MP 868.0, through largely flat grassland, past the 7,376 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Ridge (MP 870.6), the south-facing spur on the south side at Sebring Industrial Park/Airport (MP 874.0), where the line turns east-southeast, Lorida (where Lake Istokpoga lies to the south), the 8,992 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Plains (MP 884.1), a detector at Cornwell (MP 888.7), the 7,289 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Ft. Basinger (MP 892.3), the 7,268 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Mildred (MP 901.9), a turn east, and the 6,744 ft. siding at Okeechobee (MP 908.7), where a Florida East Coast line once crossed on the flat.

The line turns southeast, past a detector at MP 911.2, the 7,278 ft. north side siding (25 mph) at Sherman (MP 914.1), the north-facing spur at Frederick (MP 921.4), the flat crossing with the FEC at Marcy (MP 922.2), the 9,136 ft. south side siding at Zana (MP 925.2), a detector at MP 931.3, the dual-ended spur on the south side to the Indiantown Cogeneration Plant at Steel (MP 933.1), the 9,421 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Indiantown (MP 936.3), a speed restriction of 45 mph on the St. Lucie Canal Drawbridge between MP 937.2 and MP 937.3, the south-facing spur at Hinson Spur (MP 937.3), the 7,027 ft. south side siding at United (MP 948.3), a north-facing spur on the north side at Palm Center, a detector at MP 952.1, the 7,538 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Delta (MP 955.7), the north-facing spur at New Dyer (MP 963.4), the 4,022 ft. south side siding at Dyer (MP 963.7), and the wye with north-facing spur on the north side at Mission Spur (MP 965.6).

There is a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP  965.6 and MP 968.8, through Mangonia Park, the 8,116 ft. north side siding at Northwood (MP 967.8), where the line turns south as the “Gold Coast is reached, and the line runs through urban areas, just inland from the Atlantic Ocean (but with the Florida East Coast Railroad closer to the ocean), the rest of the way to Miami, past a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 968.8 and MP 969.6, through West Palm Beach, a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP 969.6 and MP 970.2, through West Palm Beach, the flat crossing with the FEC at MP 969.8, the 2,288 ft. west side siding at West Palm Beach (MP 969.9), where there is a passenger station, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 970.2 and MP 971.9, through West Palm Beach, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 971.9 and MP 977.8.

The line curves southwest, past the Palm Beach Airport Tri-Rail station, and then south again, past a detector at MP 973.3, the 7,474 ft. west side siding at Lake Worth (MP 976.5), the south-facing spur at Lantana (MP 978.9), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 982.2 and MP 982.5, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 982.5 and MP 983.9, the 7,692 ft. west side siding at Boynton Beach (MP 983.0), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 985.4 and MP 987.4, Delray Beach (MP 987.5), where there is a passenger station, the 7,986 ft. west side siding at Yamato (MP 991.4), a curve southwest past the Boca Raton Tri-Rail station and a detector at MP 992.4, and then back south again, past the south-facing spur at Boca Raton (MP 994.7), and the 4,996 ft. west side siding at Deerfield Beach (MP 998.3), where there is a passenger station.

There is a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1003.3 and MP 1011.6, through Broward County, the Tri-Rail station at Pompano Beach, the 13,020 ft. east side siding at Pompano Beach (MP 1004.0), a run around track at MP 1007.2, the Tri-Rail station at Cypress Park, a south-facing spur at Prospect Road (MP 1008.1), a dual-ended spur at Mid River (MP 1009.0), the 7,508 ft. west side siding at Carmen (MP 1011.0), a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1011.6 and MP 1014.0, through Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale (MP 1012.3), where there is a passenger station, a detector at MP 1013.2, the South Fork New River Drawbridge (MP 1014.0), with speed restriction 45 mph, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1014.0 and MP 1019.0, through Broward County, and Port Everglades Junction, where there was once a wye on the east side with a line heading east to the eponymous harbor.

The line continues south past the 12,496 ft. east side siding at Dania (MP1016.4), a run around track at MP 1018.2, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1019.0 and MP 1021.6, through Hollywood , the 1,990 ft. east side siding at Hollywood (MP 1019.7), where there is a passenger station, and a dual-ended spur at Hallandale (MP 1021.5), and the line turns southwest, past the 10.090 ft. west side siding at Miami Plantation (MP 1025.7), the Tri-Rail station at Golden Glades, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1028.3 and MP 1028.9, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1028.9 and MP 1031.6, through Opa-Locka, the 6,996 ft. west side siding at Opa-Locka (MP 1030.0), where there is a Tri-Rail station, a turn south, MP 1031.6, where Yard Limits and a speed restriction of 20 mph start at the north end of Hialeah Yard, where the Amtrak Lead starts on the east side, Hialeah Yard (MP 1033.2), the Amtrak Station in Miami (MP 1033.7), adjacent to the east side of the yard, the Tri-Rail station at Metro Transfer, the flat crossing with the FEC at MP 1034.2, the Tri-Rail station at Hialeah Market, the 10,400 ft. east side siding at Hialeah (MP 1036.3), where a line curves west to Oleander (and then south to Homestead), the Tri-Rail Miami Airport station is straight ahead, and a line curves east to the former SAL station at Miami (MP 1040.0).
