Hamlet to Columbia

From Hamlet (MP 253.4), where there is a passenger station (depot on the west side of the line, in the northwest quadrant of the flat crossing [later moved to the southwest quadrant]), and a flat crossing, with connectors in the (north)east (to Bridges Street) and north(west) (to Raleigh Street) quadrants, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 253.4 and MP 254.0, and South Hamlet (MP 254.0), the single track, CTC, line with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freights, heads southwest, past a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 256.9 and MP 257.5, a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 257.5 and MP 257.8, where there was once a flat crossing with the erstwhile Rockingham Railroad, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 257.8 and MP 258.7, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 258.7 and MP 262.6, and the 3,152 ft. west side siding at Osborne (MP 260.8), where the line passes from North Carolina into South Carolina.

The line starts to curve back and forth, past a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 262.6 and MP 265.5, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 265.5 and MP 267.7, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph across the through truss bridge between MP 267.7 and MP 270.8, the 3,690 ft. west side siding at Wallace (MP 269.3), Kollocks, a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 270.8 and MP 272.3,  on the bridge over the Pee Dee River, a curve to the south, and through Cheraw, including the junction where   the Society Hill subdivision heads south while the main line turns west-southwest, and the 3,406 ft. east side siding at Cheraw (MP 271.8), after which full line speeds prevail past the former location of a flat crossing with that ex-ACL line at MP 272.6, a detector at MP 274.6, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 276.7 and MP 277.4, and Kimberley, where the line starts to curve back and forth.

There is a speed restriction of 50 mph on a curve between MP 277.4 and MP 278.0, a speed restriction of 55 mph on curves between MP 278.0 and MP 279.2, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 279.2 and MP 281.3, the 2,804 ft. east side siding at Gillespie (MP 279.8), and a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 281.3 and MP 281.5, after which full line speeds prevail, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 282.9 and MP 283.2, the 3,175 ft. east side siding at Patrick (MP 284.3), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 284.6 and MP 284.9, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 285.6 and MP 286.2, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 287.8 and MP 288.4, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 288.4 and MP 289.8, through McKennon, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 289.8 and MP 291.0, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 291.0 and MP 295.4, the 4,322 ft. east side siding at Middendorf (MP 292.0), a detector at MP 297.2, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 298.2 and MP 298.5, and a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 298.5 and MP 300.2.

A Charlotte, Monroe & Columbia Railroad line once trailed in from the north (i.e., on the west side) at the 4,276 ft. east side siding at McBee (MP 299.3), where there is a wye (MP 299.0) on the east side with the 6.7 mile Robinson Spur southeast to the Robinson Power Plant, and a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 300.2 and MP 302.7, after which full line speeds prevail, the 3,104 ft. east side siding at Bethune (MP 308.0), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 309.3 and MP 309.6, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 312.5 and MP 313.9, the 3,156 ft. west side siding at Cassatt (MP 312.6), a detector at MP 314.5, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 316.0 and MP 316.3, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 318.2 and MP 318.6, the 2,600 ft. west side siding at Shepard (MP 319.5), a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 323.1 and MP 323.5, the former location of a flat crossing with an erstwhile Southern line, and a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP  325.2 and MP 326.2.

There is a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 326.2 and MP 326.8, through Camden, the 2,873 ft. east side siding at Camden (MP 326.5), where an ACL line once left to the south from a short section of line heading south, with a curve back to the southwest at the junction, a bridge over the Red River, the 2,945 ft. west side siding at Lugoff (MP 330.3), where there is a DuPont plant, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 331.6 and MP 331.8, a speed restriction of 50 mph for a curve northwest and then back southwest again between MP 332.5 and MP 333.3, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 333.3 and MP 333.9, a detector at MP 334.2, the north-facing spur at Whitehead (MP 335.3), the north-facing spur at Wedron Silica (MP 335.3), and the north-facing spur at Westvaco (MP 335.3), the 2,240 ft. east side siding at Elgin (MP 339.0), the dual-ended spur at Pontiac (MP 343.9), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 344.3 and MP 344.8, a road crossing at the Robbins & Meyers Plant (MP 345.0), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 346.3 and MP 346.6, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 348.9 and MP 349.2, the 3,070 ft. west side siding at Weddell (MP 349.1), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 351.2 and MP 351.4, a detector at MP 352.1, a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 352.3 and MP 353.3, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 353.3 and MP 354.9, and the south-facing spur at Dents (MP 353.4).

The line turns northwest, and then west-southwest, passing beneath a former Southern line, with a speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 354.9 and MP 357.6, through Eau Claire, past College Spur, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 357.6 and MP 358.4, a turn south-southwest, a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP 358.4 and MP 360.0, through Columbia, the 1,953 ft. east side siding at Elmwood (MP 358.5), where a former Southern line and the former Columbia, Newberry & Laurens trail in from the north-northwest and west-northwest respectively, a road crossing at Elmwood Avenue (MP 358.7), a road crossing at Taylor Street (MP 359.3), a road crossing at Lady Street (MP 359.6), a road crossing at Gervais Street (MP 359.7), where there was once a passenger station and is today a junction with the former Southern continuing southeast and the former SAL turning south-southeast, and a road crossing at Senate Street (MP 359.8).

Amtrak's passenger station is at Pulaski Street, Columbia (MP 359.8), followed by a speed restriction of 25 mph between MP 360.0 and MP 361.2, where the line takes the west quadrant connector at a flat crossing at which the former CNL continues ahead, and a former Southern line crosses and trails into the former SAL, with additional connectors in the north and south quadrants, and the line heads southwest, with a speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 361.2 and MP 362.1, turning west-southwest where another south quadrant connector trails in on the east side, and a former Southern line leaves to run parallel on the west side, bridging over another river, where the lines separate, a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP 362.1 and MP 362.5, through Cayce, as the lone turns south past a road crossing at State Street (MP 362.2) and the yard at Cayce (MP 362.3).
