Baldwin to Lakeland

[The second, third and fourth listings represent the names of the subdivisions of the continuing track in the days when the Miami sub. ran through from Wildwood.]

From Baldwin (MP 652.3), where there is a flat crossing (MP 652.5) and connectors in all four quadrants, with the Tallahassee subdivision continuing due west and the Wildwood subdivision turning just west of due south, with speed limit 30 mph on the turn, single track, CTC, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freights, but a local speed restriction of 20 mph between MP 652.4 and MP 653.0, past the 7,327 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Baldwin (MP 652.6), a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 653.0 and MP 653.9, Baldwin Yard (MP 653.3), MP 655.8, where a stretch of double track, CTC, starts, Fiftone, Maxville, the north-facing spur on the west track at Hugh (MP 663.3), Highland, detectors at MP 669.3, a freight speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 670.8 and MP 672.1, a former spur to a mine on the east side, Lawley (MP 671.4), Saxton, Temple, Starke (MP 678.4), where a branch heads away west-southwest, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 678.4 and MP 679.0, through Starke, the wye on the east track, with a spur to Camp Blanding, at Blanding Line Spur (MP 679.5), Newman (MP 680.1), where single track, CTC, resumes, a detector at MP 680.3, the 4,631 ft. west side siding at Hampton (MP 685.1), where the Georgia Southern & Florida once trailed in from the west and then left to the east, and the 1,290 ft. east side siding at Waldo (MP 690.0), where there is a passenger station, and a line once headed south-southwest.

The main line turns south-southeast, past a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 690.0 and MP 690.6, through Waldo, the 10,273 ft. west side siding (25 mph) at Orange Height (MP 696.6), a detector at Campville (MP 700.1), the 10,214 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Hawthorne (MP 703.3), a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 704.4 and MP 705.4, through Hawthorne, a turn back to the south, the Edgar sub. trailing in on the east side (MP 705.2) (and formerly continuing west), a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 709.5 and MP 710.7, the 10,228 ft. west side siding at Lochloosa (MP 712.3), with a lake on the west side, Island Grove, Citra, south of the lake, where a line once headed west, a detector at MP 717.9, the 11,708 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Sparr (MP 719.8), a turn just east of due south, Anthony, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 731.1 and MP 731.7, a turn just south of due west at Silver Springs Junction, where lines once trailed in from the east, a speed restriction of 70 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freight trains between MP 731.8 and MP 733.9, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 733.9 and MP 734.7, a turn southwest, a speed restriction of 25 mph between MP 734.7 and MP 736.2, through Ocala, a wye on the west side with connectors to the Ocala sub., and  the 10,119 ft. west side southbound siding (25 mph) at Ocala (MP 735.3), where there is a passenger station and a flat crossing and connector with the Ocala sub. running north-south.

The line turns south, past the 3,869 ft. northbound siding,  also at Ocala, a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 736.2 and MP 740.8, and a detector at MP 737.1, and turns curvily south-southeast, past McFall, the 10,218 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Santos (MP 743.5), a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 746.7 and MP 747.5, through Belleview, and the north-facing spur at Belleview House (MP 747.3), and turns south again, past a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 747.5 and MP 750.8, the 10,152 ft. west side siding at Summerfield (MP 752.0), where a branch once headed east, Dallas, Oxford, a detector at MP 756.8, a passenger speed restriction of 76 mph between MP 758.1 and MP 759.4 as the line turns just west of due south, North Wildwood (MP 759.4), where another stretch of double track, CTC, starts, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 759.4 and MP 760.6, a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP  760.6 and MP 762.0, through Wildwood, a wye on the east side with the Leesburg sub., and Wildwood (MP 761.5), where there is a passenger station, and the Miami sub. starts (MP 761.6).

Single track, CTC, resumes at MP 766.0, past Coleman (MP 766.1), where the Miami sub. once continued south-southeast, while the Yeoman sub. heads just west of due south, with a speed restriction of 45 mph over a road crossing at MP 766.1, and passes Panasoffkee, where it turns south, Ekal, where a branch once trailed in on the east side, a detector at MP 773.5, the 9,148 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Bushnell (MP 775.1), where the line turns south-southwest, a speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 775.7 and MP 776.7, through Bushnell, Saint Catherine, where a Florida Southern line once crossed on the flat, a turn back to the south, Rerdell, a slow curve back to the south-southwest, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 789.5 and MP 791.9, the 7,423 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Lacoochee (MP 791.2), where the Orange Belt Railway once crossed on the flat, and a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 791.9 and MP 792.4.

The line turns south at a location where there was once a flat crossing with the former South Florida (and later ACL) Gulf Coast sub. line coming in from the north, and the current line turns from its former routing southwest to that other line continuing south, with a different milepost sequence (that of the SF/ACL), past Owensboro (MP 824.7), a detector at MP 827.9, a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 828.3 and MP 830.0, a speed restriction of 30 mph over the road crossing at Snack Bar (MP 829.3),  the 15,732 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Dade City (MP 830.2), Ellerslie, Richland, the 9,786 ft. west side siding (25 mph) at Vitis (MP 836.8), where the Yeoman sub. turns southwest and the Vitis sub. turns just east of due south, past Lumberton, Millard, a detector at MP 845.0, the 7,698 ft. east side siding at Stokes (MP 846.6), a detector at Kathleen (MP 849.7), Galloway, the dual-ended spur at Griffin (MP 853.1), Lakeland Yard, a road crossing with SR 35A (Kathleen Road), and Lakeland (MP 856.5), where it joins the double track, CTC, Lakeland sub. from the north at a wye (whose east leg is know as the Lakeland Connector), just east of the passenger station at Lakeland (MP 851.8 on the Lakeland sub. sequence).
