Glenville (GV Tower) to Schenectady

From Glenville/GV Tower/CPF 480 (MP 480.4)), where the Canadian Main Line from Saratog Springs and Rouses Point reaches the Freight Main Line from Mechanicville, trailing in on the east side, and a Boston & Main line heads away on the west side, the Freight Main Line continues south-southwest, past a 10,600 ft. east side siding (MP 480.4 to MP 482.6), a 6,800 ft. west side siding (MP 481.5 to MP 482.6), Mohawk Yard (MP 482.5) on the east side, a track to Scotia, on the former NYC, departing on the west side at "MX", a bridge over the Mohawk River, a turn southwest, and then  a turn almost south next to the ex-New York Central passenger line on its east side.

Approaching Schenectady, old industrial sites appear in the urban area, including the buildings that once comprised the ALCO Locomotive works. Most of these appear disused, in 1996. Amtrak trains leave the D&H line and enter the ex-New York Central passenger line to Albany at the connection to the former NYC, departing on the west side at Schenectady (CPF 485/MP 484.7).
