Selma to Pembroke

The Amtrak station at Selma has platforms on both the west side of the A-line (with umbrella shed), the north side of the NS line (with umbrella shed) and the south side of the northwest quadrant connector to the NS line, with the depot located in the space between the flat crossing and the northwest quadrant connector. From the northwest-to-southeast NS line that makes a flat crossing with the double track, CTC, A-line at Selma (MP 161.2), speed limit 70 mph for passenger trains and 45 mph for freight trains, heads southwest, past a road crossing at South Pollock Street, a north facing spur at Dewbell (MP 162.1), the end of double track at North Smithfield (MP 164.4), where full line speeds (79/70/60) resume, MP 164.6, where the passenger and intermodal speed limits fall to 60 mph, Smithfield (MP 164.8), where a line once trailed in on the east side, MP 165.1, where the passenger speed limit rises to 70 mph, a detector at MP 165.9, MP 170.4, where full line speeds resume, and Four Oaks (MP 171.5).

Double track resumes at MP 172.0, where the passenger speed limit falls to 70 mph, past the end of double track at Alaska (MP 176.3), where full line speeds resume, MP 179.4, where the speed limit falls to 45 mph and the line turns south-southwest, a detector at MP 179.6, Benson (MP 180.0), MP 180.3, where full line speeds resume, a south facing spur at Chicopee (MP 181.2), the resumption of double track at North Dunn (MP 185.2), where the speed limit falls to 45 mph, a north-facing spur on the west side at Erwin Spur (MP 185.7), Dunn (MP 186.0), with road crossings at Edgerton, Broad and Cumberland Streets, MP 187.3, where full line speeds resume on the east track, and the speed limit rises to 70/45 on the west track, the end of double track at Kay (MP 190.4), where full line speeds resume, Godwin, and the 12,966 ft. west side siding at South Godwin (MP 194.6), where the line turns southwest.

There is a south-facing spur at Wade (MP 198.5), a detector at MP 200.5, the 17,442 ft. west side siding at South Beard (MP 204.1), the resumption of double track at North Milan (MP 207.6), where speed limits fall to 60 mph on the east track and 45 mph on the west track, a bridge over the Cape Fear River, MP 208.6, where the speed limit falls to 45 mph on the east track, MP 209.0, where the speed limit falls to 35 mph, a yard on the east side and spurs heading east and west at MP 209.2, a flat crossing with a former ACL line at MP 209.5, Fayetteville (MP 209.7), where there is a passenger station, a road crossing at Hay Street (speed limit 25 mph on the crossing) and road crossings at River and Underwood Roads, and MP 210.1, where the speed limit rises to 40 mph.

The Aberdeen & Rockfish crosses on the flat (MP 210.6), and the line turns south-southwest again, past MP 210.8, where the speed limits rise to 70/60, a north-facing spur at Urtie (MP 212.5), a south-facing spur at Hope Mills (MP 216.1), where the passenger speed limit falls to 60 mph and a shortline once crossed on the flat, MP 218.4, where the speed limit on the west track falls to 45 mph, the end of double track at South Hope Mills (MP 218.8), where the speed limit rises to 60 mph, MP 219.1, where full line speeds resume, a detector at MP 221.2, Parkton (MP 222.9), where a former ACL branch to Red Springs heads off to the west, Rex, the resumption of double track at South Rex (MP 227.7), where the passenger speed limit on the west track falls to 60 mph, Rennert, the end of double track at Cromartie (MP 233.8), where full line speeds resume, a north-facing spur at Buie (MP 236.5), MP 240.7, where the speed limit falls to 50 mph, and Pembroke (MP 241.3), where it crosses the ex-SAL line from Hamlet to Wilmington on the flat, with a northwest-quadrant connector (speed limit 15 mph) permitting access to and from Hamlet Yard for trains from and to the north.
