Contentnea to Selma

At Contentnea (MP 138.9), where there is a speed limit of 60 mph between MP 138.9 and MP 139.3, a spur trailing in on the east side, a signal bridge, crossovers, a bridge over a river, and a line heading south to Goldsboro south of the crossovers, and the main line turns southwest, with overall speed limits 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for all other trains, past dual road bridges overhead, dual highway bridges overhead, a road bridge and dual road bridges overhead (US 301). 

At South Contentnea (MP 141.0), where there is a signal bridge north of the interlocking, the line becomes single track, CTC, continuing southwest past a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, three grade crossings in town, Lucama (MP 144.2), Intermediate Signals at South Lucama (MP 144.9), a road alongside to the west, a detector at MP 145.6, a spur trailing in on the east side, a dirt track grade crossing, Aycock (MP 146.8), where double track, CTC, resumes, with a signal bridge over the double track and a speed limit 70 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for all others on the west track as far as MP 151.0, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 148.9, a dirt track grade crossing, a road alongside to the east, two grade crossings in town, and a signal bridge over the double track at Kenly (MP 151.2), where the line becomes single track, CTC, again.

There are two dirt track grade crossings, a grade crossing, a passenger train speed limit of  70 mph from MP 152.6 to MP 153.0, as the line curves towards the west and then back towards the south, with dual road bridges overhead (I-301), and a through truss bridge over a river, before resuming its previous southwesterly course past Intermediate Signals at MP 155, and Bagley. At Micro (MP 156.3), where there is a grade crossing, a road alongside to the east, and a grade crossing, an eight-car extra track heads away, followed by three grade crossings in town, a street alongside to the west, and a grade crossing.

Double track, CTC, resumes at the signals at South Micro (MP 157.9), with speed limit 70 mph for passenger trains and 45 mph for all others on the west track as far as MP 164.4, past a grade crossing right after the double track starts, two grade crossings, signal bridges and crossovers at Folck (MP 159.8), where an eighteen car extra track trails in on the east side, a dirt track grade crossing, a spur curving away on the east side, an old freight depot on the west side, a northwest quadrant connecting track on the west side at MP 160.9, with speed limit 25 mph, and a grade crossing just south of the junction, to the northwest-to-southeast NS line that makes a flat crossing with the A-line at Selma (MP 161.2). The Amtrak station at Selma has platforms on both the west side of the A-line (with umbrella shed), the north side of the NS line (with umbrella shed) and the south side of the northwest quadrant connector to the NS line, with the depot located in the space between the flat crossing and the northwest quadrant connector.
