Charleston to Yemassee

From the passenger station at North Charleston (MP 387.7), the double track, CTC, line turns west-southwest at a wye at Ashley Junction (MP 388.1), adjacent to the CSX Intermodal Yard (dead ahead), leaving Charleston itself several miles off to the south, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freight trains, but local speed restrictions on the curve of 20 mph on the east track and 30 mph on the west track between Ashley Junction and SY (formerly Tower) (MP 388.4), west apex of the wye, where an NS line crosses on the flat, rising to 50 mph at the latter, past the 10,976 ft. south side siding at Bennett Yard (MP 389.3), where a spur heads south to the Starke Industrial Park, and BN (formerly Tower) (MP 392.0) at the west end of the yard.

There is a drawbridge across the Ashley River (MP 393.7), where full line speeds resume and the line turns southwest, Drayton Hall MP 394.7, where single track starts, South Drayton Hall (MP 394.8), Johns Island (MP 398.7), where a former SAL line from Charleston trails in and the main line turns west, a detector at Rantowles (MP 400.2), MP 403.5, where double track resumes and the passenger speed limit falls to 70 mph on the east track, Ravenel (MP 406.7), where a branch once trailed in from the south, MP 408.0, where single track starts again and full line speeds resume, Adams Run, Jericho (MP 410.8), Pon Pon, MP 415.4, where double track resumes and the passenger speed limit falls to 70 mph on the east track, Jacksonboro, Edisto (MP 418.7), where single track starts again and full line speeds resume, a detector at MP 421.0 and Ahepoo.
