Pacific Junction (Tower A5) to Tower A20

At Tower A5 (Pacific Junction, MP 5.4, tower still standing on the east side), the three-track Milwaukee West line heads to the west, and the two-track Milwaukee North line continues straight ahead. Continuing north-northwest from Tower A5, the Soo (ex-Milwaukee) line heads out through suburban Chicago, now Two Main Tracks, ABS, speed limit 70-60-40, passing a signal bridge, two bridges over east-west streets, crossovers, five bridges over east-west streets, the Metra station (two side platforms with wood shelters) at Healy (MP 6.4), a spur off to the west into a factory, a concrete bridge over an east-west street, four through girder bridges over east-west streets, extra track on the west side, the Metra station (two side platforms) at Grayland (MP 8.2), a through girder bridge over an east-west street, signals at Grayland X-ing, a flat crossing with a north-south ex-C&NW freight line, a through girder bridge over a north-south street, the Metra station (two side platforms, shelter on the west side) at Mayfair (MP 9.0), where CTC starts (still 2MT), and a bridge over an east-west street.

There is an acute-angled flat crossing with the three-track, southeast-to-northwest ex-C&NW Harvard Line, with a connector in the northeast 'quadrant' (at least to the C&NW branch mentioned below), a bridge over the CTA O'Hare line in the median of the Northwest expressway, with an ex-C&NW branch alongside to the east, north of the crossing that then curves away northeast to Peterson Avenue, five bridges over east-west streets, the Metra station (two side platforms, west-side shelter) at Forest Glen (MP 10.2), Intermediate Signals at MP 10.5, a bridge over a stream in the woods, a grade crossing with a north-south street, two grade crossings with east-west streets, the Metra station (two side platforms) at Edgebrook (MP 11.6), a street alongside to the west, Intermediate Signals at MP 11.6/7/8/9, a bridge over a footpath, a grade crossing with an east-west street, Intermediate Signals at MP 13.2, extra track to the east, a grade crossing over an east-west street, industrial spurs on both sides at Niles, extra track to the west, a grade crossing with an east-west street, signal bridges and crossovers, and the Metra station (two side platforms, brick depot to the west, two extra tracks to the west) at Morton Grove (MP 14.3).

The line continues past a grade crossing with an east-west street at the north end of the station, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a street alongside to the west, a grade crossing with Beckwith Road, extra track on the west side trailing in, the Metra station (two side platforms) at Golf (MP 16.2), a grade crossing with an east-west street at the north end of the station, Intermediate Signals at MP 16.0/1/2/3, a through girder bridge over a north-south street, two grade crossings with east-west streets, the Metra station (two side brick platforms, brick shelter to the west and brick depot to the east) at Glenview (MP 17.4), Intermediate Signals at MP 17.6/7/8/9, a bridge over an east-west street, extra track on the east side, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a street alongside to the west, the Metra station (two side brick platforms, brick depot 'The Glen of North Glenview' to the west) at North Glenview, Intermediate Signals at MP 18.8, and an east-west road bridge overhead, before passing beneath the through truss bridge carrying ex-C&NW freight line, heading north east from its Proviso Yard, that is used between Bryn Mawr and Shermer by CP (ex-Soo, ex-Milwaukee Road) freight trains coming from their Bensenville Yard, whence a two-track connecting track in the northwest quadrant descends to the ex-Milwaukee Road line, past a grade crossing with an east-west street, trailing in on the west side at Tower A-20 (MP 20.5).
