81st Street to Dolton Junction

Metra ownership ends at 75th Street, with the line continuing due south, passing under the ex-Rock Island line now owned by Metra, with extra track on the east side south of the former CRI&P and connecting track on the west side, to 81st Street (MP 9.0), where an end-on junction is made with the UP (ex-C&EI) line that continues south from this location. The line angles south-southeast, there is a connector to the adjacent BRC line on the west side, and a connector from that line where the C&WI 83rd Street yard once stood, the line bridges over the BRC which curves away eastward at this point, and makes at grade connections with lines to and from that line, including double track on the east side of the UP line with another line beyond that. There are two bridges over east-west streets before the line makes a flat crossing with Chicago Rail Link at Oakdale (MP 10.1).

The double track line continues south past Euclid Park, a grade crossing over an east-west divided street, Fernwood, a grade crossing over an east-west street, a bridge over an east-west divided highway (I-57?), a park to the east, a bridge over a stream, two grade crossings over east-west streets, North Roseland, two grade crossings over east-west streets, Intermediate Signals (MP 11.x), a grade crossing over an east-west street, housing on the east side, and Roseland, turning southeast past a grade crossing over a north-south street, a former grade crossing over a north-south street, a grade crossing over an east-west street, a grade crossing over a north-south street, a bridge over a north-south street, a bridge over an east-west street, and Sheldon Park, with housing on the west side.

The line now bridges over the four-track Metra Electric and two-track IC main lines just south of their Kensington location, passing Intermediate Signals (MP 14.6?) and a disused grain silo to the east, a grade crossing with a major east-west street, and housing on both sides, and turning south again, bridging over a street and then the Calumet Sag Channel on a through truss bridge, past extra track on the east side, a spur curving away to the east, and two grade crossings, to Dolton Jct (MP 16.7), where flat crossings are made with four tracks of CSX (ex-B&OCT) and IHB, with connections trailing in from CSX in the southwest quadrant and IHB in both southwest and southeast quadrants.

The speed limit is 30 mph over this entire line segment.
