Wellton to Picacho (via Phoenix)

From the junction at Wellton (MP 770.8), the main line continues east-northeast while the Direct Traffic Control, ABS, single-track Phoenix line heads away east-northeast, in the Roll Block, with speed limit 25 mph on the crossovers and turnout, and 60 mph for passenger trains, 40 mph for freights, thereafter, past McElhaney (MP 774.8), a detector at MP 775.7, and MP 776.0, where the passenger speed limit falls to 50 mph, turning north-northeast across the Gila River, past MP 778.2, where the passenger speed limit returns to 60 mph, northeast  past the 3,453 ft. siding at Roll (MP 780.9), where the Roll Block ends and the Kofa Block starts, and turns east-northeast again, past a bridge with high water detector at MP 792.7, Growler (MP 793.0), a detector at MP 798.0, the 3,686 ft. siding at Kofa (MP 802.5), where the Kofa Block ends and the Hyder Block starts, a detector at MP 808.9, a bridge with high water detector at MP 810.6, Horn (MP 813.2), Athel, and the 3,688 ft. siding at Hyder (MP 822.3), where the Hyder Block ends and the Gillespie Block starts.

The line briefly turns east at Montezuma, and then northeast past the 3,680 ft. siding at Saddle (MP 841.1), a bridge with high water detector at MP 841.3, a bridge with high water detector at MP 842.8/9, MP 845.0, where the passenger speed limit drops to 50 mph, a turn east and then north, MP 848.0, where the passenger speed limit returns to 60 mph, a turn northeast again at Harqua, the 3,551 ft. siding at Gillespie (MP 851.0), where the Gillespie Block ends and the Arlington Block starts, a turn east-northeast past Crag, a detector at MP 856.5, a bridge with high water detector at MP 857.6, the 3.628 ft. siding at Arlington (MP 861.3), where there is a wye on the north side with a lead to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the Arlington Block ends and the Buckeye Block starts, the 3,537 ft. siding at Dixie (MP 865.7), where the line turns east, a bridge with high water detector at MP 866.9, Hassayampa, Palo Verde,  and the 3,707 ft. siding at Buckeye (MP 875.7), where the Buckeye Block ends and the Cashion Block starts.

There is a detector at MP 880.0, Liberty, Norton, MP 887.3, where the passenger speed limit falls to 55 mph, a turn northeast, Litchfield Junction (MP 889.3), where a line to Litchfield Park once headed north, the 3,595 ft. siding at Litchfield (MP 889.7), MP 889.9, where the passenger speed limit falls to 50 mph, a turn to the east, the 4,825 ft. siding at Cashion (MP 893.0), where the Cashion Block ends and the Pipeola Block starts, a jog northeast and then east again, Tolleson (MP 895.7), Jean, Fowler (MP 898.1), a detector at MP 899.0, where Yard Limits start, Pipeola (MP 900.4), where a spur heads away on the north side, Cotpro (MP 900.8), where a spur heads away on the south side and one from McDowell Road trails in on the north side, a spur trailing in on the north side, Campo (MP 900.2), where there are extra tracks on the north side and a spur to the Salt River heads away on the south side, MP 903.0, where the speed limit falls to 30 mph as the line enters the Phoenix urban area, 23rd Avenue, Phoenix (MP 904.0), where there is a small yard, after which the Santa Fe line from Williams approaches on the north side and then runs parallel on that side, MP 904.8, where ABS starts (and thus the Pipeola Block ends), with speed limit 20 mph, a curve east-southeast and then east-northeast to resume the easterly course, Santa Fe crossing (MP 905.4), in the middle of that curve away from a straight line, where an industrial spur south from the SF line crosses on the flat, a trailing connection from the Santa Fe line as the main line resumes its easterly course, and the passenger station (depot on the south side) at Phoenix (MP 906.0), where the speed limit is 15 mph on the station track and turnouts.

With the Santa Fe freight line still to the north, there is a wye with industrial trackage on the south side to the Arizona Interstate Industrial Center, Phoenix Yard (MP 907.0), on the south side, where the Santa Fe freight line trails in, MP 907.9, where DTC (the Tempe Block), ABS, speed limit 30 mph, begins again, MP 909.1, where Yard Limits end, Aristuc (MP 909.4), MP 910.2, where the speed limit returns to 60/40, a detector at MP 911.0, Kendall (MP 911.1), a spur heading away on the south side, Tovrea (MP 911.8), Portland, Auction (MP 912.4), MP 912.7, where the passenger speed limit falls to 40 mph, Yeso (MP 912.9), MP 913.6, where the speed limit falls to 20 mph, a sweeping turn south, followed by a bridge over the Salt River, the 3,835 ft. siding and passenger station at Tempe (MP 914.4), where a spur heads away east to the APSX Ocotillo Power Plant, and Tempe Junction (MP 915.3), where the passenger speed limit rises to 30 mph, a line continues south to West Chandler and the main line turns east.

The speed limit reverts to 60/40 at MP 916.5, past Normal Junction (MP 917.1), where a shorter line from Tempe once trailed in on the north side, Frankenburg, where a spur once headed northeast to the Tempe Pump Plant, MP 920.8, where the speed limit falls to 25 mph, the 3,972 ft. siding at Mesa (MP 921.8), still in the urban area, where there is a small yard on the south side, and a spur continuing east, the Tempe Block ends and the Mesa Block starts, and the main line turns south, past MP 922.0, where the speed limit rises to 50/40, the 2,500 ft. siding at McQueen (MP 923.6), where a line heads away south to Chandler and Sacaton and the main line turns southeast, past MP 924.2, where the speed limit reverts to 60/40, Gilbert (MP 927.0), a detector at MP 929.0, Higley (MP 932.0), a bridge with high water detector at MP 933.7, a spur once trailing in from Williams AFB, the 5,785 ft. siding at Germann (MP 937.2), where the Mesa Block ends and the Germann Block starts, Rittenhouse (MP 938.1), a detector at MP 939.6, a bridge with high water detector at MP 941.1, Queen Creek (MP 941.6), MP 947.2, where the Germann Block ends and the Magma Block starts, and the 5,733 ft. siding at Magma (MP 948.9), where the Magma & Arizona heads northeast to Superior, the Copper Basin continues south-southeast, and the main line turns south.

The Magma Block ends and as the Coolidge Block starts at MP 951.0, and there is a detector at MP 953.0, a curve south-southwest and then south again, a mileage equation MP 957.1=MP 958.4 at Poston, where the line through Chandler once trailed in on the west side and a connection from the Copper Basin line once trailed in on the east side, a bridge over the Gila River, Coolidge (MP 960.7 to MP 962.0), where CTC starts, Randolph (MP 966.4), Topaz (MP 971.4), Peak, a detector at MP 975.6, and a bridge with high water detector at MP 976.9, before the direct line from Wellton trails in from the northwest at Picacho (MP 979.7/936.7) and the line turns southeast.
