At Selma (MP 110.5), where there is 6.585 ft. siding and a flat crossing (speed limit 20 mph) with the CSX (ex-ACL) A-line, there is a connector in the north quadrant and the Amtrak station has platforms on all three of the west side of the CSX A-line (with umbrella shed), the north side of the NS line (with umbrella shed) and the south side of the connector (speed limit 25 mph), which trails in on the north side at Selma Junction (MP 109.3), with the depot between the platforms. The NS line is single track, Track Warrant Control (TWC), with speed limit 49 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains, with signals and CTC being added at the expense of the State of North Carolina, in June, 2007, heading northwest, past an old freight depot on the north side, spurs trailing in from a tank farm on the north side, and a grade crossing, north for a short distance, past a dirt track grade crossing, and then northwest again past two grade crossings, Wilsons Mills, a road alongside to the southwest, and a grade crossing.
The line turns north-northwest past a grade crossing, extra track on the southwest side to grains silos alongside, a dirt track grade crossing, the extra track trailing in, past a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, two grade crossings, a closed grade crossing, four grade crossings, a spur trailing in on the southwest side, Clayton (MP 95.8), where there is a 3,722 ft. south side siding, and then curvily northwest, past Intermediate Signals (new, in 6/07), a bridge at MP 95.2, where the speed limit is 25 mph for freights (on the bridge), a grade crossing, extra track on the south side, a grade crossing, Auburn, a bridge over I-40, two grade crossings, a street alongside to the southwest, two grade crossings, extra track on the southwest side trailing in, extra track on the northeast side, and Garner (MP 87.8), where there is an old depot, fenced off, on the northeast side, TWC ends and CTC starts (in 6/07).
There are curves between MP 85.4 and MP 84.2, with speed limit 45-40, Intermediate Signals, at which the line turns north at a grade crossing, with the line still single track, with the line turning north-northeast past South Raleigh (MP 83.9), a grade crossing, a wide road bridge overhead (I-40/440?), and then north-northwest past a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a wide road bridge overhead, a bridge over a stream, a rail-served facility on the west side, dual road bridges overhead, yard tracks on the west side, a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a divided highway, signals at MP 81.4, two bridges over roads, and a bridge over a street intersection, to a junction where a line turns away north and the Greensboro line turns northwest into Raleigh Station (MP 81.2).
