The Golden Retriever is a member of the Sporting Group and was first recognized by the AKC in 1925. The
Golden was developed in England and Scotland in the late nineteenth century for the purpose of retrieving wildfowl on water
and land. Its physical characteristics and its willing, adapatable and trainable nature have also, fitted it for many other
endeavours.

The "Golden Retriever" is a natural dog as it doesn't need any surgical alteration or exotic grooming to
keep it looking characteristic of the breed. The Golden Retriever has a normal canine structure, without distortions of leg,
jaw or tail. It is characteristically a healthy, sturdy, adapatable animal. Basc grooming should take no more than 20 minutes
per week. The mature male is ideally 24-26 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs 75-90 lbs.; Bitches 22-24 inches tall at
the shoulder and 65-80 lbs.
The coat, which is one of the most characteristic features of the breed, is a "double coat" with a thick
waterproof topcoat and a dense, soft undercoat. There is feathering of longer hair on the backs of the legs, on the neck and
on the chest, and on the tail The adult coat may range from light to dark golden, with blonde or light golden being currently
most popular.

Goldens are used for many things like obedience, field, agility, rescue work, and are great service dogs.
Goldens are easy to train and strong, however, they have a higher energy level than some other breeds and are very social
so they require more attention to keep them from becoming bored. Their gentle temperment can't be matched! This is their most
outstanding characteristic. They are perfect family dogs and love children. If you desire an outgoing and devoted companion
a Golden is for you. The Golden is known for being the "ideal" family dog. They are very affectionate and will fill your
home with love.

If you are looking for a dog that you can put in the backyard and visit occasionally, the Golden is not
for you. Goldens, because of their affectionate nature need to be part of the family. They will starve for lack of affection
and attention, if you put them in the backyard and forget them.
Our dogs live in our home with us, play with us, and think they are equal members of the family. They are!
A Golden will greatly enrich your home if you will make the commitment to treat them as you would your children. This is
a lifetime decision, that will change your life for the better. If you bring a Golden into your home and love and care for
it as you would your family, they will shower you with more love, devotion, and protection than you ever imagined. What you
give to them will be repaid a hundredfold and more.
