Forest Talk

Two days in the forest

Does wonders for me.

I pause and everything

There talks back when I listen,

The sights, the sounds, the smells.

One small tree spoke the loudest,

Barely eighteen inches tall,

Maybe a year or two old,

A cedar growing out of a rock

With no visible soil at its roots.

I stood there gazing at it,

Amazed at what it was doing,

Amazed at its determination,

And then it spoke;

“Do you not see

The same in yourself,

Your own belief

In the strength within you?”

I stepped back,

Startled by the question,

Not certain that I had heard it.

Then the tree spoke again,

“You would be amazed

At who you could be

And what you could do

If you believed in yourself”,

And I thought I heard a slight chuckle

As the forest breathed a soft “amen.”

Free-Flight

 (after flying my first glider)

The wind is your only companion now,

Lifting you into your own experience,

Clearing your cluttered mind of all earthly cares.

You are free of the tether that binds you to all otherness;

You are on a path where there is no path.

Imitating the eagle,

You suspend yourself on the invisible

That means everything to you.

How difficult it is to trust that which we cannot see,

The invisible within us,

Willing to give everything for us,

If only we would believe

In the inner unseen self,

Willing to sustain us beyond all reason.

The journey we could travel,

Believing in this pathless path,

Suspended by the unbelievable,

Would amaze, frighten and delight us

Beyond our imagination;

If only we would trust

In the interior angel

We cannot see.

The quiet, almost limitless boundaries,

Give us vision that astonishes us,

Takes our breath away,

Preparing us to see further

Than we have ever seen before.

And something within you,

Knew all of this before you took flight,

And you find yourself still fascinated

By the hawk gliding on the wind above.

There is nothing we must do.  There is nothing we must have.  There is nothing we must be. There is nothing we must know.  However, it is important to remember that when it rains we can get wet and that fire burns.
