It happened like this...When I took early retirement from Madigan Army Medical Center in July 1996, we decided that "Blueberry Muffin" needed a companion now that "Clyde Pierre" had gone to the Rainbow Bridge.  After seeing a newspaper ad for cream & white standard poodle puppies in Chehalis, Washington, we stopped by to see them on our way to Portland.  They had one female left who was listed as cream, but was really white.  This was their children's favorite of the litter and they had played with her a lot and dressed her up in doll clothes.  We immediately fell in love with her and when we left to continue on our trip to Portland, she was running inside the fence, keeping pace with our car, all the way down to the main road.  She was barking furiously--as if to say "Take me with you!" It was all that we could do, to keep from going back and taking her with us.  When we returned home we called back and told them that we would return in a week and bring "Blueberry Muffin" with us so he could give final approval.  They bonded instantly.  "Blue" was missing "Clyde" and I think he thought that "Peaches" was a living stuffed toy.  She taught him how to be a puppy again and how to hunt squirrels.  They spent many happy hours in the yard, running from tree to tree, trying to catch the squirrels running up them.  It got so bad that I had to put 18" high fencing around all of the perimeter gardens to protect the flowers and shrubs.  That worked fine until we got "Princess Blair"----but that is part of her story.

Since "Peaches" has been with me ever since we got her as a puppy, she thinks that she is human and we haven't told her otherwise.  One of her favorite things to do, is to go ridin'  All she has to do is to hear the word "ridin' " or see me get the car keys, and she is at the door, dancing around on her hind legs.  Her favorite ridin' spot is in the front passenger seat.  She sits up straight and puts one paw on the window ledge and turns and stares back coolly at the other drivers as we pass them.   People do a lot of double-takes.
