CHEZ DUGAY
Home | CHEZ DUGAY... More photos... | How can we visit?

In the foothills just north of CARCASSONNE lies the quiet little village of CUXAC CABARDES. Here where Route de la Foret meets tiny Rue Tranquille... you will find ...

CHEZ DUGAY is a 300 year old stone house.  It features a living room with tile floor and stone fireplace, dining area. A half bath and kitchen are also on the ground floor.  The Master bedroom and charming 2nd bdrm are on the second floor...  A full bath with large tub, skylight and bidet, the large upper room (with 3 beams) with a futon and a small bedroom are on the 3rd floor... All ceilings feature wooden beams and original French furniture throughout the house add to it's ambience.

CUXAC herself is a beautiful calm village nestled in the foothills of the Montagne Noire. The clean fresh air invites daily walking tours through picturesque streets.  And everywhere one sees the surrounding hills and forests.  The Dure river runs the length of the town. There is a grocerie shop, a Boulanger a library, community swimming pool and a cafe/restaurant. Vineyards abound in the area. Goat cheese is made locally.

CUXAC Cabardes is an hour from the Mediterranean. Barcellona is a 3 hour drive South. The cities of Nice, Cannes, the countries of Monaco and Italy follow East along the Sea.

Closer to "home" the "Book Village" of MONTOLIEU with book stores, bookbinders, classes, cultural events, museum and 2 cafes is 10 kilometers away.  The historic Cathar castles of SAISSAC and LAS TOURS are only a few miles away.

La Cite, Carcassonne at night...

CARCASSONNE is Europe's largest functioning double-walled medievil city with 52 turrets.  It dates from before Roman times and was once the official border between France and Spain. Coveted throughout history by many it is now a World Heritage sight for all to enjoy!

Inside her walls you can spend days visiting the castle (where Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was filmed), the cathedral, lively cafes, restaurants and shops. Make a retreat back to peace and tranquility in Cuxac, away from the bussle... then come again when you're refreshed.

Running through the south of France from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean is the Canal du Midi. This manmade waterway was dug out in the 1600's to enable trade. Horses would pull cargo boats from the paths which still border the canal for hiking & biking. Today leisurely boat rides move through the locks while passing sunflower fields and stoney villages.

The majestic Pyrenees due South are a treat to view across the valley as a breathtaking ridge from the Sea to the Ocean. We often say "You have to admit....it's BEAUTIFUL!"
The dress code is casual..

Come relax and enjoy the beautiful south of France!
