Original Rag Dolls

While pregnant with the first of my three daughters, fifteen years ago, I began making unique rag dolls. Those first dolls have now evolved into my "Emolia" series.

I am working on my third grant through the city of Oakland's Cultural Arts Funding Program which allowed me to make dolls with kids and their families in long term care at Children's Hospital in Oakland and Kaiser Permanante. To view some of the dolls made, go to "grant work" on the navigation bar at the top of this page.

These 13" one-of-a-kind posing dolls are original pieces of art. Some have intricate stitching on their bodies. They are sold in their own frames (which happen to be old vanity or bureau drawers).

I offer doll making classes

I have hosted several informal doll making classes. Women and their daughters, or groups of friends, have spent the day sewing, eating, and socializing in a way that has all but been forgotten.

Many clients have had me make customized dolls for them. When a young friend lost her hair due to illness, she called and requested that a doll be made with no hair. I made one with some different wigs & hats to go along with it.

I would like to thank "City Stitchers", a group of City of Oakland employees that knit throughout the year, and at the end of each year sell off what they have made and donate the proceeds to a worthy charity. In November 2007 I was lucky enough to be chosen as the recipient of their donation. This has made it possible for me to continue my work with kids at Children's Hospital after my City of Oakland grant ran out.

Thank you to all the individuals that sent in donations to Children's Hospital in Oakland. These donations are helping to keep me working with the kids.

I would also like to thank "Philanthropic Ventures Foundation" for donating $500.00 towards the cost of materials for my hospital work.
