My posing dolls have shown at "Sola Lucy", a green clothing botique, in Berkeley. They have also shown at Gallery One in San Francisco, at ACCI Gallery and Ozzie's Soda Fountain Shop in Berkeley. They are also in the collections of several Bay Area residents.

I have been featured on NBC News 11, and in both the Oakland Tribune and the Monclarion for the work I have been doing in local hospitals.

Dolls made by kids in long term care at local hospitals, through classes with me, had a show at MOCHA (Museum of Children's Art) in Oakland from May 16 - June 16, 2006.

A second show for the month of September (2007), featuring some of the dolls that kids (and their families) and I have made together (at Children's Hospital & Kaiser Permanente, Oakland,)was at Oakland's Rockridge Library. This work was made possible through a grant from Oakland's Cultural Arts Funding Program.

I have been a Bay Area designer for the past twenty years desiging many logos for local businesses and nonprofit organizations while raising three beautiful daughters with my husband.

Although I am a doll lover, I have always felt that there were a lot of unappealing dolls out on the market.

When my children began asking me to make dolls for them, my friends became interested in what I was producing. They started requesting to have them made as well. I soon realized that there were a lot of women out there that liked hand made dolls.

After some time I started getting groups of people together to participate in doll making parties. These gatherings would take up an entire day, but everyone would have a great time socializing and eating while creating their own dolls. It brings to mind the sewing circles of the past.

I don't try to over humanize the features of the dolls. They are meant to look like dolls, not abstract sculptures of people. Color and texture and design are my motivations. Each doll is its own unique self that evolves as I work on it.I hope you enjoy them.

After receiving a grant through Oakland's Cultural Arts for my third year running, I am continuing my work at Children's Hospital. Anyone wishing to make a donation to keep the doll making program running at Children's Hospital in Oakland should contact Rebecca Rice, Child Life Specialist at: 510-428-3559. Please mention that your donation is going towards the "doll making program". Or send contributions to: Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland, ChildLife Gift Fund #128151-Lori Fischer, 747 52nd St., Oakland, CA 94609. Thank you.
