"What (or Who) Made You Fall in Love With Keeshonds (or Keeshonden, if you prefer)?"

Shep on his chairShep was our first Keeshond. My niece Leslie Dion got him when she was 9 years old. The pet shop salesperson assured my sister that he wouldn't grow any bigger than puppy size. (Keeshonds weigh 35-40 pounds full grown!) My mother renamed him Shep (after a family dog in Ireland) because the name "Stuffy" just wouldn't do. We had Shep for 12 years, finally losing him to Cushing's Disease in 1991.

If you're interested if finding out more about Cushing's Disease/Syndrome, visit Veterinary Cushing's Disease and Cushing's Syndrome.

How much we miss those little sounds
Like the tapping of your toes,
Or the chance to see you at the door
When everyone comes and goes.

You made us laugh, you made us think
You were our little boy!
Whether begging for a scrap of food
Or barking at a toy.

It's hard to fill the emptiness,
No one can take your place.
Our minds fill with your wagging tail
And your smiling little face.

Twelve years with you was not long enough,
You had so much love to give.
We would have nursed you twelve more years
If in comfort you could live.

Rest in Peace
Shep

Shep in THE HOLE! Snow Dog
Every summer Shep dug
THE HOLE
under the back porch.
Each year it seemed to be deeper than the year before.
Shep hated the rain and loved the snow. I guess you can say the same about most dogs
(except Kodi).
