What's New at Keeshonds and other stuff?
Please
sign our guestbook.
Spanky, Kodi and I appreciate your effort.
This page is intended to showcase Spanky & Kodi, my 7 year old and 5 year old Keeshonds (or Keeshonden, if you prefer). If you're interested in learning more about Keeshonden, Keeshond (and other breed) Rescue or just dogs in general, take a peek at K.a.o.s. Favorite Links and Spanky's & Kodi's Special Friends.
As you might expect, you'll find plenty of dogs running around here. My best advice is be careful where you step and wipe your shoes on the way out!
Keeshond:
The Most Intelligent Breed of Dog
in the World!
Although the Keeshond has been traced back through fossil remains as far back as the Neolithic Age, (5000 B.C.) historical events in the Netherlands in the late 1700s, combined with the breed's popularity in that country, made the Keeshond internationally known. In about 1781, Holland was divided into two political factions: the Orangists who followed William of Orange, and the Patriots (or Keezen, as the pro-Orange men derisively called them). Cornelius de Gyselaar, who had one of these popular Spitz dogs as his constant companion, was a Patriot leader. Because "Kees" is a nickname in the Netherlands for Cornelius, it is believed to have formed the basis for the breed's name. "Kees" de Gyselaar's "hond" became the emblem of the Dutch Patriot party and the breed name was born. (The New Complete Keeshond, Cash, Carol and Ron ©1987, Howell Book House Inc.)
"Aren't You Going to Tell Us About Your Dogs" Before I tell you about them, I can't forget to give Shep his 15 minutes of fame. Shep was our first Keeshond. We had Shep for 12 years, finally losing him to Cushing's Disease in 1991. Then along came Spanky. See and hear more about him on Spanky's page. Two years later, we decided that Spanky was old enough to have his own dog, so Kodi joined us. You can see more pictures of Kodi and read his amazing story on Kodi's page.
I couldn't resist including this icon. For the politically correct who might be offended, I have a right to use it. I attended The
Cotting School many years ago.

This flame burns perpetually in memory of Susie, Carol & George as well as all the other members of our family and yours who have battled cancer.
I'd appreciate any constructive
comments or feedback.
