Education I received my Bachelor of Science in engineering from Texas A&M University in 1966. After working as an aerospace engineer for 13 years, I returned to graduate school in psychology. I obtained a Master’s degree (1982) and PhD (1983) in Clinical Psychology from The Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, CA.
Training
I completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency at Delaunay Mental Health Center in North Portland specializing in outpatient psychotherapy with children, families and adults (1982-1984). I keep my training updated through ongoing continuing education including 6 hours of group and individual case consultation each month.
Approach
During the initial session I will gather some basic information to assess your needs. Together we will use this information to develop therapy goals and a specific treatment plan. The goals will help to provide direction as we work in a problem solving manner to complete your therapy. We will work actively during the session(s) and I may give you some practical tasks to do between sessions. I usually think of a course of therapy being completed in months, not years.
Theoretical Orientation
I have been trained broadly in a variety of therapy modalities. My work uses techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis, solution focused therapy and systems therapy. Overall, I take a practical, problem solving approach to assist you in reaching your goals.
