The Portolan, the Journal of the Washington Map Society, continues to be a leader in cartographic journals. The opportunity exists for dealer members of the Washington Map Society to advertise. The Washington Map Society now has about 400 members, most of who reside in the United States. There are also members/subscribers in 19 other countries. The Portolan is sent to each one of our members and institutional subscribers three times a year. Advertising in The Portolan is an excellent opportunity to reach lots of people who collect antique maps. Consider placing ads in The Portolan as you develop your business plan and budget for the coming year.
There is a Limited Amount of Advertising, so Act Soon. Total advertising will be limited in The Portolan to roughly 12% of the total pages in the journal, as specified by the WMS Board of Directors. That limit has not yet been reached which means additional ads will now be accepted, on a first-come, first-served basis. The opportunity to advertise in the journal is being offered only to dealers who are members of the Washington Map Society.
Advertisement Sizes (print quality PDF form):
-- The
quarter-page advertisement size is 3.5 inches wide x 4.75 inches tall
(portrait style).
-- The half-page advertisement size is 7.5
inches wide x 4.75 inches tall (landscape format).
-- The
full-page advertisement size is 7.5 inches wide x 10.0 inches tall
(portrait style).
Pricing is as follows:
For a three issue commitment:
Full -page color ($1125) or black and white ($750)
For a three
issue commitment: Half -page color ($750) or black and white
($500)
For a three issue commitment: Quarter page color ($450) or
black and white ($300)
For a single issue: Full- page color ($525) or black and white
($390)
For a single issue: Half -page color ($350) or black and
white ($260)
For a single issue: Quarter page color ($200) or
black and white ($150)
Should the three-issue option be selected, advertising copy may be changed in each of three issues so long as revised copy is received by the due dates indicated below. Otherwise, the previous ad will be used.
To advertise in the Spring 2013 issue of The
Portolan, here is what is needed:
By February
1, 2013, but as soon as possible, confirm your desire
to commit to either a three-time ad or a one-time ad.
Indicate the size ad (full page, half-page or quarter page) and
whether it would be color or black and white. Early response will be
a factor in the placement of advertising copy in the journal. Send

By February 19, 2013, provide check
payment in US dollars (payable to the Washington Map
