upon seeing a rainbow near Durango, CO September 2000

Rain,

          down falling drops tear splatter…

          not tears…

          Rain and teardrops falling down

                             but rain’s heaven sweet,

          tears, earth bitter,

                   salty.

Rain,

too, may bitter be when drops

                   too much,

too soon, too little, too, too late.

                             Thus, earthbound, rain

                             may fall for good

                   or ill.

After rain,

          sundrop light through rain shining

                   rainbow…

          No color, one color scatters

                             into many

                             in a season

                   of sun.

After rain,

          flood following after storm

                   promise.

Too, light may salty tears shine through

                             after rain and

                             to sweet shatter

                   earthbound

rain.
