Season Cycle on the High Plains

…and the winds blow,

          drifting snow

                   across winter earth, bare;

and the winds blow;

          down below

                   waiting spring seeds quicken;

and the winds blow,

          grasses grow

                   yellow blades warming earth freshen;

and the winds blow,

          summer show,

                   waves of green whispering;

and the winds blow

          soaring crow

                             over straw gold fields, parched;

and the winds blow,

          time to mow,

                   time to bring the harvest home;

and the winds blow,

          scatter sow,

                   seeding earth autumnal;

and the winds blow,

          drifting snow…
