Don't sit around and wait for a college coach or scout to find you. Below are some tips and thoughts, for those who want to reach the next level. |
A.) Send letters or emails, to any colleges, that you might have an interest in attending. Include any strengths you have...(ie...speed, velocity, height, batting average, power, GPA)
B.) Call coaches, from schools, that interest you. They can't call you, until after your junior year, but you can call them. Let them know you are interested, in their program.
C.) Attend the camps, that most college coaches put on, if you want them to see you. It's a great opportunity to spend quality time, with their coaching staff.
| D.)
Contact the showcases, to see if you can get an invitation. Several
of the showcases have in excess of a 100 scouts/coaches, in attendance.
This can be expensive, but it is a great way to be seen by many recruiters,
in one weekend.

E.) Send letters to coaches of programs that you are interested in attending. On the "Recruiting Info Page", there are links to a list of all colleges and universities. You can find addresses and phone numbers, through their web sites.
F.) If you receive a letter or Player Profile form, from any coach, fill it out and send it in quickly. Add a copy of your spring schedule and list any showcases you will be attending.
G.) Keep your grades up. It's one of the first things a coach/scout will check out. They will also check in with your guidance counselor, to see what kind of citizen you are.
H.) Hustle at all times, on the field. You never know who might be watching. The opposing coach may be asked about you, at some time in the future. Do you want turn off a recruiter fast? Don't hustle or throw a tantrum, when things go bad. Recruiters are impressed by your hustle and desire for the game. Run every ball out, hard, even if it's a sure out......then hustle your butt back to the dugout. You can catch the eye of a recruiter, on a routine out.
I.) If you know a scout/recruiter is in the crowd, relax and play your game. Good things can happen, if you just stay focused on the game.
J.) Prepare for your SAT test. Take it more than once, if your first attempt isn't a high enough score. Coaches will look at that, before going any further in the recruiting process.
K.) You should be marketing your self heavily, during your junior year. Don't wait, until your senior year, to start trying to stir up interest, in your playing abilities. In contrast, don't give up hope, if you're a senior and haven't gotten any contacts. As a senior your behind, in the process, but it's not too late to start sending out information, on yourself.
