An early prototype Tarantulas. The proto Tarantulas is molded in transluscent orange, silver, black, and olive green plastics. (The olive green is a tad darker than the green used for the production figure.) The spider eyes are a transluscent light blue. It is complete with tight joints. The launcher fires, but not as reliably as the launcher of the production piece (sometimes it just kind of falls out). There are Hasbro/Takara markings on the inside of the robot legs. This proto has the same color scheme as the one featured on the back of the early packaging (except mine in unpainted and the missile is different).
 

Comparing it to the production Tarantulas, I could only find one small difference. On the production figure, there is an additional bridge on the underside of each robot foot. Somebody decided it would make the foot more durable in the production stage.
