Beast Wars Variations page
This is it: the Beast Wars Variations page with pictures of all the
different American variants that have surfaced. (Japanese variations and
repaints have not been included, because, frankly, I do value my sanity.)
There are two kinds of variants: packaging and mold variants. Packaging
variants reflect changes in the packaging design, and mold variants reflect
changes in the actual figures themselves. I'm sure some people will disagree
with some of them (especially the chrome changes in the TM line) and more
will be brought to my attention. In any case, it's a useful guide for knowing
what's what.
Most of the variants have been pretty well documented and have been
around for long enough that most people are familiar with them. But, starting
with the release of the Transmetals, the number of variants has sky-rocketed.
Slight changes in chrome color has kept serious collectors on their toes.
And, if left in a room together to discuss which chrome changes actually
constituted variants, I'm sure things would get violent. A lot of the chrome
changes are very subtle, and do not photograph well. I've seen most of
them with my own eye, and there is a difference, like it or not.
Special thanks -- in no particular order -- to Fred's Workshop, Paul
Wais, Jeff Morris, and Lewis Brooks III for their help with pictures and
information on this page!!
And for the sake of the Beast Wars hobby, this list is not provided
to make everyone need to collect every single variant out there! That has
already happened in the POTF2 market, and it's not pretty. Just collect
what you like, open the packages, enjoy the figures, and don't worry about
it! :-)
This page is divided into three sections for ease of navigability. Yes,
that's a word. :-)
