Dressage competition for junior riders...........
This past Sunday I attended a dressage schooling show with a 14
year old student. She is an excellent rider & rides an appropriate horse, they are a good match. Unfortunately, she competed
against adults, professionals, and local dressage "big-wigs". The judging, as usual , seemed to reflect personal biases over
actual presentation by the competitors. In my studen'ts class there was a horse that was curled so far behind the vertical
it almost made me cry to watch, surprise, this was the winner of the class!!!! There was also a horse that was never round
who was pinned ahead of the young rider.
Here's my question:
Why can't juniors be pinned seperately at schooling shows?
If we truly want to grow our sport we need to encourage our juniors by offering
them equitable, inclusive competition, rather than segregating them into a couple "junior rider" shows a year??????

Seven years since the 9/11 disaster.........it seems SO much longer
ago in many ways. The world truly changed that day.
