DEAR SHELBY

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear, loving Great Dane, Shelby.
Shelby made the jorney to the Rainbow Bridge on March 6, 2009. She was surounded by her
loving pack to the end of this world. May she go in peace and love. (03/06/09) :-(

Welcome to our Therapy Dog web page here on MURPHY HOUSE.

I hope you enjoy the new Therapy Dog Web Site design.

On this home page we'll introduce our Therapy Dog organizations, here in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) and highlight other Therapy Dog organizations and point out other important areas for you to visit on our site.

This page is dedicated to another interest of mine, which is Therapy Dogs, or Pet Assisted Therapy (PAT). On this Page you will find many links to Therapy Dogs, Obedience Training and dog related sites in general.

If you have a great dog related web site that you would like to share, or you would like to share your  recommedations, send it an email to:

dlmurphy1@earthlink.net

NOTE: Please put the word "THERAPY DOGS" in the Subject matter box of your email. We have a very aggressive email filter but you can get through. :-).

Therapy Dogs are volunteer trained dogs, along with handlers, which are brought into schools, hospitals, convalescent homes, and other therapeutic settings to interact with patients and staff. The dogs are there for the patient to pet, comb or just talk to. The results can be as dramatic as sparking a long forgotten memory to simply calming the patient down during a treatment.

My wife and I belong to two different Therapy Dog organizations. Therapy Dogs Inc. and "Pets with Purpose Program" at Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Sylmar California.

My wife and I are Tester/Observers for Therapy Dogs, Inc. At this time we are looking for potential dog teams in the Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) area.

Feel free to roam around the other links that I have provided. Come back and visit my Pet Assisted Therapy web page on a regular basis as it will change from time to time as I grow and find new things of interest. Happy visitations.

;-)

How to Spot Heatstroke

A day spent romping at the beach or playing softball in the park is fun for the whole family. But keep an eye on your pet -- she's the one wearing the fur coat. Overheating can lead to heatstroke, a condition that occurs when a dog is unable to maintain a normal body temperature by panting. Watch for signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting; excessive salivating; staggered walking; muscle tremors; seizures; glazed eyes; noticeably darker tongue and gums; vomiting; or bloody diarrhea. Contact your vet; a visit may be necessary to check your pet for dehydration and other complications.

AND NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CAR!!!!!!
