Dan's Website o' Miscellany

Well, that's me at work a few years ago in San Francisco (duh). I'm a location sound mixer in the San Francisco Bay Area, working primarily on productions for corporate, broadcast and cable shows. I started out at my first internship 10 years ago, and have been freelancing fulltime since 1993.

Miscellaneous - 07.27.98

Shortly after this picture was taken, I got left behind at the Golden Gate bridge by a fellow crew member who shall remain nameless. I called the production company offices from the nearest payphone (virtually on the first few feet of the bridge) and had them get a crewmember to come back for me, and then call me back to let me know someone was on the way.
After about 10 minutes of waiting and scowling at anyone who looked like they might try to use the phone, it rang and I eagerly grabbed the handset, hoping to hear that I wouldn't be spending the rest of the night on the windswept bridge.
"Hi, this is Sara at the San Francisco Examiner, we'd like to send you a complimentary copy and sign you up for a subscription to the paper."
Apparently you cannot escape telemarketers anywhere.
"Sara, do you know where you're calling?"
"No."
"You've just called a payphone at the foot of the Golden Gate bridge, and not only that, you've called a payphone I'm actually standing at waiting to receive a call!"
I thought she would be surprised at the mild coincidence, or react in some way, but no. . .
"The computers pick the phone numbers for us at random." she said in a zombie-like trance.
"Great. Sign me up and bring my paper as soon as possible, it's getting cold out here." I said, defeated once again by the cold logic of a computer and its servitor.

I have some very rough plans for this website. The Sanctum Imperialis is the only developed section of my website so far, and is all about a minature wargame by the name of Warhammer 40,000 that I enjoy playing. In the future I may include some job-related information, but mostly this site will be about my hobbies. I collect comics, and wrote a script once; I might post that here some day. I'm also interested in italian scooters and Ska; I used to have a few pictures of scooters posted, but took them down so I could concentrate on the wargaming pages.
