As a member of the Clan, the Character is expected to perform their assigned duties.
In return the clan will take care of the Character's needs.
Think communism. "From each, according to his ability; to each, according to his need."
What the Clan thinks is the Character's abilities and needs are, may not match what the Character believes.
The Character is rarely "alone" as there is always extended family to help and care for them. To be "alone" is to be "Nakome" or "Clanless" and is considered the worst thing that can happen to a person. The Character is a member of a specific set of families (Lineages) by being of the Onyx Anchor Clan. Their advancement and successes will improve the standing of the Clan in the eyes of the world. The Clan will be generous in it's rewards and gifts for such actions. Their failures will not be allowed to taint the reputation of the Clan. They will be covered up if possible. If it cannot be, an impossible task is assigned with "assistance" in attempting it. This will either compensate for the taint or the offender will die in the attempt.
As a Character, you will want to stand out above the rest by your deeds. In this world "doing what is expected" is the highest achievement for most people. In your case, what is expected may mean "be a Great Hero".
For most people money is not needed. Your identity signet identifies you, your Lineage, and your Clan.
(You can think of this as as your "credit card".) The numerous accountants keep track of your credit
and your Clan covers your depts. Yearly cost of living varies with Status, and also according to the number of
dependents and employees a character has. The Clan provides this stipend based on the
Character's perceived value to the Clan. Naturally you are expected to not spend more than you produce for the Clan.
There are times when cash is used, but these are for small expenses or some cross clan obligations. Nobody will except anything but cash from "foreigners" and "Nakome".
A Character may become assigned to an NPC Patron, such as a noble lord or a temple. This counts as an employer, and they will look after the character's living expenses instead of the Clan, as well as giving gifts from time to time for outstanding service. The same applies to a PC who has employees; who, if they become dissatisfied with his leadership, they may also seek another patron.
The climate is very like living on the equator, with tropical weather year round. Wearing thick clothes or armor will cause "Fatigue" if done for an extended time.
Also, there are NO horses or other riding type animals in the known world. There are oxen like animals called Chlen that are the common beasts of burden. Their hide is what is peeled (frequently) to make the items of "metal". When treated, the hide is light and harder than bronze.
