My RATH line came to the US in 1866 on the bark Motzart out of Bremen. Wilhelm Rath and Maria Bartel brought his family from Mecklenburg-Strelitz to settle in Cleveland, Ohio. The children married in Cleveland and raised their children there as well. My great grandfather August Rath first married Carolina Gutshchmidt. Carolina died as a result of childbirth with her 5th child Carl in 1887. August sent back to Mecklenburg for a new bride. As a result, Amelia Bauhagen arrived in March of 1888 with her son Fred by a previous mariage and she and August were wed. They had 8 children, one of which was my grandfather August E. Rath. August married Mary Dvorak in Cleveland in 1911 and had two children, Richard A. Rath and Wilbert A. Rath. Richard A. Rath was my father, who married Ardell Stemm in 1937. I arrived in 1939.
