What we cover in class:

    Sitting when someone approaches; staying calm when another dog passes; Working through distractions

General Instructions:

  • Do NOT feed your dog before class.  Your dog should be HUNGRY.
  • Walk your dog just before class to encourage elimination.
  • If you have other dogs at home, do not bring them to class.
  • Wear some type of closed-toe athletic shoes and comfortable clothing you can run in.
  • If more than one person in the household will be working with the dog, both handlers should attend class.
  • Bring your dog to and from class on a 4- to 6-foot leash.  Dogs MUST be on leash coming to, during and when leaving class.  

Items You Need for Obedience Class (Note: dog must be 20 weeks or older.  NO DOGS AT FIRST CLASS.) 

  • A collar.  Appropriate collars will be discussed at the first class.
  • A leather or nylon leash, 4- to 6- feet long, suitable for the size of your dog.  Large, heavy dogs need leather leashes.  (No flexi, retractable leashes or chains!)
  • A 25- to 30- foot light-weight long line or rope (about 1/4 inch in diameter).
  • Lots of SOFT, moist training treats, cut into tiny cubes, such as Natural Balance Roll; hotdogs; chicken.
  • Plastic bags in case you need to clean up after your dog.
  • Written proof of dog's current vaccinations (due at first class).
  • Your dog's mat or towel.
