Feedback from a recent Web-based SQL Tuning class... (April 2011)

John Rose says: Have been employing well the learning with which I came away from your SQL tuning course, and am wondering about the upcoming schedule for your Advanced PL/SQL Tips and Techniques course.

Your half day lecture format is perfect by the way. I am sure you get a lot of similar comments, but being able to spend the afternoon catching up on normal duties and getting some time to review and prepare for the next day really increased the learning
for me.

The week following the course, I discovered a SQL statement in one of our major applications that had consistently been running for over four and half minutes before returning data. Applying newly found knowledge, a few indexes and the Quest Optimizer, I was able to reduce the time to less than one quarter of one second. An unusual and extreme case certainly, but it sure makes it easy for me to pick out my next Dan Hotka Training!

Feedback from a recent Web-based SQL Tuning class... (April 2011)

It was a very good course.  The instructor was very clear in explaining the course.  I wish I could apply all of what I learnt.

Very informative.  Going to help me write better SQL code.

Very knowledgeable instructor and course materials is full of excellent information including SQL code examples & techniques, multiple ways to get & interpret explain plans and  references to other materials (ie white papers, book, websites, etc)

Feedback on my Understanding Explain Plan book... (March 2011)

Borjana Stojic says: Dan Hotka’s book: “Oracle SQL Tuning: A Close Look at Explain Plans” is a very useful book that helps me a lot in my every day work and it helps me a lot in understanding Explain Plans.

I worked as Oracle Developer for 5 years, and now work as Oracle DBA for 4
years.

From my experience, this is the best book about SQL tuning and Explain
Plans that I have ever read.

Hotka has a talent to explain in very simple way very difficult issues.

Dan Hotka is a great teacher and very talented teacher, too.
This is a great book!
Thank you!

Feedback from a Collaborate10 attendee... (April 2010)

Howard Hackworth says: I am a DBA and a 12 year user of Embarcadero's DBArtisan, a Toad competitor DBA tool. My new company uses TOAD exclusively and although I have been meaning to make the switch it has been a difficult transition without any training on using TOAD. Your session and now armed with your book I am
diving into TOAD and already making more headway in a day then in the past
several months without your help.

Anyway, I just wanted to say Thank You...

SQL Performance Tuning At Your Desk! (November 2009)

Galina Savikovsky says: This was the best class I ever had and the most cost-effective one. (I had a bunch of classes from Oracle itself and other providers). Dan is a great teacher and is very pleasant to work with.  I also really liked his eagerness to say good things about tools developed by other people or to give other Oracle gurus the credit they deserve.  This is a rare quality.  This class is worth every penny and every minute spent.  Thanks a lot for the great week and for the priceless information.

Feedback from a regular RMOUG attendee... (November 2009)

Robert Holland says: You are an inspiration to me...I have watched you grow and contribute to the well being of us all throughout the past 14 years of my time in the RMOUG and in every way you exemplify the lifestyle, ethics and mythos/pathos I wish to build myself. Your self-esteem is your best asset because it frees you to be
confident and powerful in your ability to give and share with others.

In a fiercely competitive and completely over-saturated training market you have carved out an excellent career for yourself in helping others do the same.

Advanced PL/SQL At Your Desk! (November 2009)

Mike Williams says: Thanks Dan. Great class, you've done a terrific job with all of it --
material, presentation, technical details, etc.

...he later writes:

Thanks for an excellent class. When I think back over how much you
packed into 5 half-day sessions, I'm amazed. I didn't know what to
expect from a web-based class, but it was almost like having you here
providing over-the-shoulder training. I appreciate how every topic was
peppered with how-to's, useful tips on performance, comparisons with
other methods, etc. It'll take me a while to digest everything you
covered, but I can start putting this to use right away. My only regret
is that I didn't have this class years ago, as I think back over all the
code I've written that could have been so much better. I'm definitely
planning to take your other course on SQL Performance Tuning; I can't
wait to see what I've been missing in that arena! Thanks again.

Advanced PL/SQL Tips and Techniques (Denver 5/09)

I loved the code examples and snippets to take with me.  Class very well laid out.  Dan's expertise in this area is exceptional.  I have learned some useful tips.  Great stuff!  I enjoyed the course and would certainly recommend to others.

Advanced PL/SQL Tips and Techniques (Chicago 3/09)

Trainer was knowledgeable and entertaining; All around excellent instructor; Answered all questions and was very thorough; Enjoyed his examples and personality - Please bring Dan back for future classes - he is excellent!

Oracle SQL Performance Tuning Course (Ireland 2/09)

Best courseware I've ever seen!  I'll definitely pull this out as reference at work.

First off, let me thank you for putting out Oracle9i development by example, I find it easy to follow, and it is helping me to understand how to use Oracle.

Reference from one client to a prospective client:

As Coordinator of Human Resources Development, I oversee training
and development for all of our employees (approximately 1400
employees).

In May of this year, I hired Dan Hotka as an independent
contractor to train 36 of our programmers on our campus.  Dan worked with
one of our IT managers and myself to customize a SQL Tuning and
Troubleshooting program that would meet our specific training needs.

The resulting program exceeded our expectations, and our employees came out of
the training with skills that they were able to immediately apply to their
jobs.

From my perspective, one of Dan's greatest strengths as a trainer is that
he has real world experience using the software.  He's not just a trainer
who has learned the software and teaches a class.  When I contract with a
trainer, I expect him to be able to answer specific questions that our
employees have about the work they are doing.  Dan was able to take on that
consulting role and apply the software to the work we are doing here.

We have recently approved our development plans for FY04, and I am certain
that we will be working with Dan to develop training programs again this
year.  I would most definitely recommend Dan Hotka to our best clients
because of the real world experience he brings to the classroom and his
willingness to meet our specific training needs.
