How We're Different

Not so very long ago, implementation of computer systems relied upon the skills of two different experts: the businessman and the technical expert. However, these two experts shared almost no overlap of knowledge. The businessman struggled to understand the special jargon and point of view of the technical expert, and the technical expert knew very little about the how the business worked. In the best outcomes, the businessman and technical expert could overcome the communication gap and come up with an adequate system, on time and on budget. However, all too frequently, they failed, and the result was missed business requirements, poorly designed systems, late deliveries, significant cost overruns and abandoned projects.

Today, the world has become more complicated. Business users demand systems with a very high degree of functionality, flexibility and connectivity, both to other systems and to people. A system that doesn't contribute directly to gaining competitive advantage, minimizing costs or enhancing revenue is a lost opportunity and a failure for the business. Implementing a successful system in today's environment requires that the businessman and the technical expert merge their skills to produce a solution that changes the business for the better.

GoddardParker Consulting specializes in creating the merger of business and technical disciplines. We support the business process owner, who must accept responsibility for the outcome of the development effort and participate effectively in technical decisions that have operational impact. We support the technical experts, who must commit to understanding the business context and the implications of different courses of action. GoddardParker Consulting relies on effective use of system development methodology, training, and strong project management support to create realistic expectations and help both disciplines overcome the tunnel vision that inhibits success. We build integrated project teams that require business focus and technical competence from all team members. We lead successful implementations that make a real business impact.
