The insignia is a proud part of EVANS tradition.
The Cherokee War Thunderbird and the words "ULETSU-
YA-STI," Cherokee for "Bold Warrior," commemorate Commander
E. E. EVANS, USN. the ship's namesake. The Western Hemisphere
is shown to indicate the waters in which the ship operated.

Built by Puget Sound Barge and Dredging Co.Seattle, Washington.Cost $12.5 Million.Keel Laid April 08 1955.Launched September 14 1955 .Commissioned June 14 1957.Decommissioned December 03 1973.Length 314 feet, 6 inches. Extreme Beam 36 feet, 9 inches.Armament 3"/50 caliber twin rapid fire gun mount forward,1 40mm mount aft & 6 anti-submarine Mk 32 Torpedo Tubes amidships.2 Foster-Wheeler Boilers.1 De Laval Geared Turbine.20,000 SHP.1 Shaft.Max Speed 28 Knots.Crew 12 Officers 161 Enlisted.NRF Crew 10 Officers 100 Enlisted supplemented by approximately 60 Selected Reservists from the Seattle area.
