| Delaware Raritan Valley Playwrights |
At present, we are only a dream of a small group of playwrights, informally organized, whose meetings are centered on supporting our craft, the craft of playwriting. This is, in fact, a dream that, for various reasons, I have failed to pursue sufficiently to get such a group started. If there is an existing group that more or less fits the description laid out on this page, I would certainly like to know about it. Please use the existing resources here to contact me if you know of an active group. What I was thinking:Each meeting will center on the reading of various works-in-progress and a constructive discussion of each excerpt or short play read. Group members collectively agree to basic ground rules for our discussions and the method of selecting materials for reading, with an emphasis on fair play. Post-reading discussions are guided by an experienced moderator, who works to ensure that the sessions remain focussed on matters of craft -- sidestepping, as much as possible, digressions into matters of purely subjective aesthetic judgements. We hope to meet primarily in the Princeton, New Jersey vicinity, though location will depend largely on the convenience of the group's members. Members of the group should have at least some experience with groups and workshops similarly structured, or be willing to attend several meetings before sharing their own work, as a way of getting a sense of how the group operates. The group welcomes new and aspiring playwrights. If you are a playwright
or screenwriter in the area, and you are looking for a reading
group to provide creative stimulus and constructive criticism
of your works in development, please contact
me. Please feel free to explore any other resources
that have been placed on this website. |
