September 27 & 28th, 2005
The following are notes I took upon hearing many of the Gedolim speak.
I want to share these notes with those who where unable to participate in the conference:
Please check back as I continue to complete my notes, as this page is still uncompleted.
TUESDAY NIGHT - SEPTEMBER 27TH
Speakers:

Rav Schorr, of Ohr Somayach
Prepare for Rosh Hashana by purifying our mouth. Our mouth does tzchuva (repentance).
The Chofetz Chaim was the Kohain Gadol of today. This year is the 72nd yahrzeit of the Chofetz Chaim.
Torah, Chesed, Loshon:
Adam sinned. The sin of Adam was in using his special uniqueness of speech. The ikkur is tzchuvah.
Shofar is the nishmas of life. We get renewed: we get a new life and new debor (speech).
Use our debor for declaring Hashem the King.
The koach (strength) of debor (speech),
Hashem choose for use our inheritance.
Kollel of Yaakov.
72 equals chesed (kindness).
There are 72 kinds of loshon horah.
There were 72 bells on the Kohain Gadol's skirt.
There are 72 nigoyim.
Today we have no outward tzarras (spiritual leprosy).
Today we have an inner tzarras, the affliction of leprosy. This affliction is a disconnection from your soul.
Limud Torah - is the greatest zchus (merit).
Ahavas Chesed = chassadim, & increase the middos of chesed (the character trait of kindness).
Loshon: (speech)
Hashem loves our debor (speech).
Shofar - correct ourselves of matan Torah.
Through Torah, hilchos loshon horah.
Rav Eisemann
Relate to People:
How to relate to a fool and a pain:
Better to hear chachum than song (noise) of a fool.
Don't give a fool mussar because he will justify himself, because these are answers of a fool.
Be sensitive: have inner love for the person, because he does the best he can.
Fools and thorns both crackle.
Put yourself in the thorn's place: it has nothing to be proud of and is useless.
Tries to draw attention, knows people don't like us, craves and needs to matter and not be useless. Needs to count.
So the fool is obnoxious and inappropriate to justify himself in his own eyes.
Avoid a fool if you can, cause you can get into an argument, so it is useless to try to help.
Try to get important people involved with him; if not - stay away from the fool.
If with a fool - you will ruin your wise heart.
If you have a good heart - it is given to you by Hashem; a fool is given his lot by Hashem.
Rav Feuer
The Chofez Chaim wrote these 6 questions that will be asked when a person dies:
The nation will see a great light:
The Wonders of Moshiach:
The Chofetz Chaim says, why the delay in Moshiach?
How to bring Moshiach?
Did you wait and yearn for Moshiach?
Did you learn Torah?
Did you have a family?
Did you do mitzvahs?
There will be increasing darkness in the world - then all of a sudden there will be a great light at the end of time.
The increase of darkness leads to an increased chance that Moshiach will appear.
In Egypt, Moshe and Aaron came all of a sudden out of the blue. Similarly,
the nineth plague of darkness was followed by the tenth plague; and suddenly we were brought to freedom.
Remeber the redemption from Egypt.
Not to only remember and appreciate, but to increase yearning and belief in Moshiach's coming.
If not wait and yearn,
Hashem is doing a chesed to us, so we can get ready (level of Torah, increase in mitzvahs, and increase in kiruv).
Get up and pray in the night (exile); and cry over the exile. Have pain over the Korban (destruction). Say tehillim about the Korban: #: 89 & 137.
Say Tehillim #137 before you bench during the regular week.
HaGaon HaRav Perlow
When the Chofetz Chaim died, he belonged to a different era.
Chizuk for Teens:
So when the yetzer horah says he is too old and weak, he tells it that he (his good intentions and deeds) is not as old as his yetzer horah.
Hashem gave to us the Chofetz Chaim as a gift.
Be loyal to Hashem.
The Chofetz Chaim wrote to soldiers to give guidance, advice and strength.
Remember and treasure the gift of the Chofetz Chaim that Hashem gave to us.
Commit to the Chofetz Chaim's teachings: Mussar, Shmirash Haloshon,m Kiruv, Sefer HaDas, Memorours.
When the Chofetz Chaim was old and weak, he said to himself that you are older than me (speaking to his own yetzer horah (evil inclination)). Because the yetzer horah you get when you are born, and the yetzer tov (good inclination) you get at bar/bas mitzvah.
Rav Rietti
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH

Rav Raymon Beyda
Rab Zelig Pliskin
Shmiras HaLoshon Yomi Shiur
HaGaon HaRav Aron Leib Shteinman (Yiddish)
HaGaon HaRav Matisyahu Solomon

Directions to clean your mouth for Rosh Hashana:
Tolner Rebbe (Yiddish translation)
Even a rasha (wicked person) should ask to be kadosh (holy).
Hashem wants us to be kadoshim (holy) and you should know that
even small mitzvahs will bring the geulah (redemption).
The Rebbe's bracha to us: Hashem should give us the power to follow the teachings of the Chofetz Chaim.
Rav Zev Leff
Spoke on t'zhuva (repentance - return) for the sin of loshon horah (evil speech).
Torah protects the world. Through Torah we connect to Hashem.
There are 39 melachos. Melachos is to make a compound or mixture. Speech mixes also. The hesban of loshon horah is a bad use of speech.
The sin of loshon horah is equal to all avairas (sins).
There are 2 types of damages from the sin of loshon horah:
One should have regret and remorse.
Din (judgement) is caused by avaira (sin).
Heshban is a missed opportunity. We are judged not only for the commission of the sin, but also judged on the missed opportunity that was lost by doing the sin.
A living soul can talk. We toil with the mouth by conversation or learning Torah.
We should make the imperfect world a perfect world.
There are 2 atonements for loshon horah:
silent atonement is the burning of the insense in the Temple
audible atonement is the bells on the Kohain Gadol's clothing.
There is damage to those who speak and those who listen.
There is a silent damage which destroys a person's neshamah (soul). Metzorah (someone with spiritual leprosy) is equal to a dead person.
Rav Mordechi Neugroschel
Responsibility
There are 3 Shofars: when Adam was created, at Mt. Sinai, & the akeida (binding) of Yitzchak.
The Shofar reminds us to not forget the truth.
Rav Yitzchak Berkowitz
Loshon Horah about family: spouse and children:
Rav Yissocher Frand
A person's merits (zchusim) should protect us.
Hurricanes in this last month:
Hurricanes: we don't know the cause. But we can learn the lesson of gratitude.
The Chofetz Chaim said about hurricanes:
look at it and what wind can accomplish. It can wipe out cities.
See the effect of wind, the power of wind.
Great wind is equal to the power of speech.
This power has effects and also devastating effects.
Thunder: the Chofetz Chaim asks: what does Hashem want?
Thunder is to have the effect to straighten out a person's heart.
Gratitude that we are still alive. We saw many victums of the hurricane loose basic needs. We should not take our basic needs forgranted. There is no guarrantee that we will still have them.
Be grateful and appreciative of what we have.
HaGaon HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz (Yiddish)
