About Us

A simple "hello"

...is what brought us two together.  It's funny how something so simple could be the start of a wonderful life together.  Here's a little about us, and how our paths crossed.  The rest, as they say, is...well, you know how it goes.

...about beth

Beth is the third child of Ernesto and Hildelita Florendo.  As a young girl, Beth traveled the world with her parents, her older sister Leilani, her older brother Jan, and her younger sister Amy, because their civil engineer father worked on various projects around the globe.  Eventually, they settled in Hawai'i, on the island of Oahu.  Beth graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1999 and moved to the mainland to pursue engineering opportunities.  She currently works as a Junior Civil Engineer with Crosby, Mead, Benton & Associates, in Encino, CA.  In her spare time, she enjoys music, movies, television, bicycling, automobiles, crafts, and spending time with Dennis, of course.

about dennis...

Dennis is the son of Boy and Linda Narciso and brother to his sister, Narleen.  A Los Angeles native, Dennis attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he originally started as a Biology/Pre-Medicine major, but finished with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and minors in Sociology and Political Science in 1997.  Dennis went on to attend Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, but came back home to Los Angeles to complete his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, CA, in 2003.  Dennis currently works as the Assistant Internet Manager at Metro Nissan in Montclair, CA, while he awaits results from the California Bar Exam.  In his spare time, Dennis enjoys sports, reading, music, movies, computers, automobiles, and spending time with Beth, of course.

how did they meet?

She was having a bad day, after bombing one of her engineering exams.  In an effort to cheer herself up, she decided to try chatting online, since she had seen her friend Marmelyn do it many times before, and had never tried it before.  He was killing time in between classes and decided to go online.  A chance encounter between them started with a simple hello.  They talked online briefly, and continued their conversation over the phone.  She promised to write him and send him a picture.  On an evening trip to his apartment mailbox, he received a letter from her and opened it right there, right away.  He fell in love with her smile, as he saw her picture for the first time under the moonlight.  He went to visit her in Hawaii for his spring break...she followed him back to the mainland after her graduation.  They're proof that online and long distance relationships can work. ;-)

the proposal

After saving up for a year on his student budget, he picked out a ring (yes, that ring up there) for her in January, 2003.  He had planned with her to go to San Francisco for his Spring Break, and she thought it was just a trip up to the Bay, since they had previously planned to go there a number of times, all of which never happened for one reason or another.  Unbeknownst to her, he planned to propose to her up there while on their trip.  However, he wasn't sure how or where he was actually going to do it.  He decided that there's no place like home, and on Sunday, February 16, 2003, he woke up early and put on a shirt and tie.  He woke her up and got down on one knee beside the bed.  He told her he loved her and proposed.  She was so surprised that she started crying tears of happiness and couldn't say "yes" right away.  He actually handed her a towel first because she was crying so much.  After she had calmed down, he put the ring on her finger.  They ended up making the San Francisco trip an "engagement honeymoon."
