    Your spinal cord is shaped like a slightly flattened cylinder that is a "cable" of nerve cells about 17 inches long.

    It descends from your neck about two-thirds of the way down your backbone to your lower back. It carries millions of nerve signals or "messages" between your Central Nervous System (CNS) and your Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).
