Evolution of Karst in the Lower Suwannee River Basin, Florida

My Ph.D. dissertation involves extensive application of GIS to morphometric and spatial distribution analysis of surficial karst features within the lower Suwannee River basin, Florida. In this study, I used GIS to evaluate the morphometric and spatial distribution parameters of some 25,000 karstic depressions to examine the effects of various hydrologic and geologic factors on surficial karst development, and to resolve the evolution of karst. I created two comprehensive GIS databases for the  morphometric and  spatial distribution parameters of karstic depressions. Substitution of space for time by analyzing the spatial variations of karst landforms allowed me to decipher the evolution of karst in the lower Suwannee River basin as controlled by sea level changes.
