It is the very nature of the Life Force within all living things to BE, to express that life force fully. Plants break through the dark ground and climb toward the light naturally, while animals joyfully express the naturalness of living without any concern for the past or future.

We, as THINKING beings, interfere with that natural process, trying to suppress it or replace it with other, unnatural desires. We intellectually acknowledge this life-force, and even develop "laws" to explain it scientifically. Then we use those laws while still denying the life-force in our own lives.

For example, a "law" of hydraulics is that liquids will seek their own level, and will exert great force to reach that equality, which we use to generate electricity. In thermodynamics, the "law" of entropy says that all objects in a given environment will seek to achieve equality in temperature, and we use this law to cool engines and heat our homes. In physics, equal and opposite actions and reactions are used for all mechanical devices. In magnetics, the "law" that opposites attract (seek equality) and like forces repel makes generators and electric motors possible.

One of the most striking examples of this life-force in action is in electricity. Imagine the power in lightning, for example, the great release of energy to achieve equality in the positive and negative charge between the earth and the atmosphere. We HARNESS this power, and use it as a mobile force to start our cars each day, a battery. Yet uncontrolled, it can be destructive, as in a lightning strike.

The car battery, too, unregulated, can cause destruction. Cables attached to a battery can quickly burn a hole in steel, or cause an explosion in another car battery if connected wrong. The YEARNING to be one, to have no difference in electrical polarity, is this powerful force. When the poles of the battery are connectd and allowed to share their current, the battery goes dead, inert, no charge or DIFFERENCE between the poles.

So it is in our lives. We YEARN to be One with I AM, the All That IS. When we meet another, there is a CHARGE like the electrical force in a battery, and we yearn to overcome that difference in the same way. With some,we react with violence which we call anger or hatred, and with some we react with a sexual attraction we call love. (For more on our "dual-sexed, electric universe" see Sex).

Our mind, our understanding and maturity is the regulator of this force. Without understanding, it can be as destructive as lightning, when the power seems to use the body despite all reason that would dictate otherwise (President Bill Clinton's current sex scandal is one example). Murder, mayhem, all problems of every kind can ultimately be traced back to the misuse, or misunderstanding, of this Life Force.

All, ultimately trace back to a simple mistake that A Course In Miracles calls the ego, the BELIEF in separation. What a silly belief, when we know that all IS ONE!!!
