A dumb act, so-called because no words were spoken (juggler, acrobats, animal act, etc.); performed as the audience is being seated. A very bad spot on the bill. |
| Act 2 |
A song and dance team, or other more interesting act; performed as the audience is settling down. |
| Act 3 |
A sketch or playlet, designed to really engage the audience. |
| Act 4 |
A flash act, an all-girl dance revue, for example, to provide a solid punch. |
| Act 5 |
A big name entertainer to close the first part of the program. |
Intermission and Announcements
| Act 6 |
A strong specialty act or jazz band to bring the audience back in and get their attention. |
| Act 7 |
Full stage act or sketch, usually with a name performer. |
| Act 8 |
Headliner, the best spot on the bill |
| Act 9 |
A closer, usually a dumb act, which plays as the audience exits. Playing to the haircuts. The absolute worst billing. |
