We here in the DVO Green Room are honored
to have heard from living relatives of the following actual people
from the "Golden Age" of Vaudeville:
William F. Carroll, aka "Irish Billy" Carroll, a
song and dance man, sketch writer and member of the Board of Directors
of the White Rats of America. Mr. Carroll died of an apparent
heart attack while waiting backstage for a curtain call at the
Broadway Theatre in Camden, NJ.
Eddie Foy, legendary song & dance man and patriarch
of the "7 Little Foys."
George Fuller Golden, a monologist who performed in both American and British Vaudeville. He gave at least one command performance and was the founder of the White Rats of America, which would become Actor's Equity Union. He also wrote a book entitled My Lady Vaudeville.
Marcus Heiman, head of the Orpheum circuit, who bought the Keith-Albee circuit (which would eventually become the Keith-Orpheum circuit). He would later be involved in the sale of Keith-Orpheum to Joe Kennedy, Sr. and continued to run it until Kennedy sold out to RCA.
Elmer F. Rogers, the house manager of the Palace in New York City for 18 years until he quit on May 20, 1932.
Roisman's Alabamians, four brothers and two sisters who performed a musical act, with dancing and comedy. Between 1925-1934 they toured the Keith-Albee and Orpheum circuits, among others.
Henry Santry, a singer and band leader. His act also featured a trained parrot.
