Members of the Church of the World Messenity (known in some countries as Johrei) also give
Light.1

Pranic healing, not a part of any religion, but an ancient practice of giving Light, can be learned by anyone. The books, Pranic Healing, and Advanced Pranic Healing, written by Choa Kok Sui, of the Philippines, can be purchased in most countries. Although classes are available and will be helpful, they are not necessary. There are no dues or membership requirements, and nothing to offend any religious group.

In her book Hands Of Light, Barbara Brennan does an excellent job of explaining the giving of Light. Essential Reiki, by Diane Stein, tells you all you need to know about giving "hands-on," although the necesssity for "attunement" is strictly a matter of belief. There are other methods available that can be found in the alternative healing section of your book store. Theraputic Touch is a form of giving Light energy.
The omitama is a pendant the members wear on a chain around their neck. Members are told that it gives them a
spiritual connection to God. Members sign an agreement to make an "offering" every month to keep this
connection and are told that if they do not continue to make this offering, their "spiritual cord" to
God is broken. This helps discourage members from leaving the organization. There is a web site
with pictures of the omitama and it's contents at:

The goshintai is the name of the scroll contained in their altar. The scroll is said to have written on it the formal name of God in Japanese calligraphy. Members must get five new members (in the US) to be eligible to get a goshintai for their home. In addition they are expected to make a sizable offering. This is one way they get people to bring in new members. Members are taught that this is how they "save souls." They are also taught that the Light is stronger when a goshintai is present. An offering is encouraged each time a person goes before a goshintai. One former member offered to give back their goshintai for the amount they donated to the organization. They received no response.
Members of Johrei wear a pendant but their founder stated in one of his
books3 that this was really not necessary.
When Light energy is transmitted to the Third Eye, it stimulates the pineal gland, causing
it to produce the hormone melatonin, a natural tranquilizer.4 Mahikari
instructs the receiver to close their eyes, simulating darkness, which further enhances the production
of melatonin.
All energy comes from the creator. How could it be any other God?
Mahikari encourages members to come to the dojo (center) to exchange Light or attend ceremonies
even when they have an illness that can be passed on to others. It
is comparable to going and sitting in an outpatient clinic full of sick people. In addition, Mahikari
teachings discourage the use of supplements that are needed to help the immune system. Supplements
in the form of antioxidants are helpful in fighting free radicals and inhancing the immune system.5 Most
people are deficient in one or more essential elements. Unless a person is living in the country away
from toxins and all stress, and growing their own organic food, they probably need supplements.6
Getting sick is not necessary to rid your body of toxins. Planned detox programs are by far a better method.
Frequent bouts with sickness and fever exhaust the body of metabolic enzymes and make it more susceptible to
degenerative diseases.7 Mahikari also practices unsanitary methods of working
with diseased spiritual energy. Disease not only exists in physical form but also in energy form. Disease
in energy form is called diseased bioplasmic matter.8 Members are not taught
sanitary methods of working with Light recipients. Light givers absorb diseased bioplasmic matter if they do
not practice adequate hygiene.
Religious organizations perpetuate guilt, blame, fear, and separation. Our loving Creator does
not punish his children. We are here for the experience. Your experiences involve what you are learning from this accident.
Before being incarnated as a child, this
spiritual being chose a path that included an early death. Although the child's body died, the spiritual
being continues on. You also chose this path before you were born. Accept this, learn from it, and use this experience to help others.
You probably can't. Everyone has a path and it is not up to us to decide what is the right path for someone else.
People who are a member of any religion or spiritual group, have been guided there for some reason. They must decide for
themself if and when they want to leave.
To our knowledge nothing "bad" has happened to anyone who has opened it, thrown it away, or burned it.
Some people prefer to make a "statement" by returning their Omitama to Mahikari.
A former member in Australia has a web page that has information about the Omitama and it's contents.
Sukuinushisama
was the founder of an organization called Sekai Mahikari Bunmei Kyodan.
When Sukuinushisama died, there was a power struggle between a prominent member of the organization
(Sakae Sekiguchi) and the the woman who claimed to be the adopted daughter of Sukuinushisama (Keishu
Okada). Ultimately the Japanese courts decided in favor of Mr. Sekiguchi, and against Miss Okada.
Keishu Okada then founded the organization called Sukyo Mahikari where she is known today as
Oshienushisama,
it's spiritual leader.
