    I doubt anyone who had never heard Favella Lyrica could imagine what they do, or how well they do it: We've never heard anything quite like the duet singing of Pamela Murray and Pamela Dellal.

    Of course there are celebrated duet recordings by Caruso and Scotti; Schipa and Galli-Curci; Isobel Baillie and Kathleen Ferrier; Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Irmgard Seefried. The two Pamelas share some of their historical virtues:

    Favella Lyrica first performed together in 1990. That was before the singers and instrumentalists thought of creating a permanent ensemble -- they hadn't even chosen a name for themselves. That first concert by soprano Pamela Murray, mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal and harpsichordist Michael Beattie was so delightful that a critic wrote that he wanted to stop strangers on Newbury Street and tell them all about it.
