Overview: The first 7 days will consist of a general geography study and review with assignments and activities on the internet. This means that most of your time spent will be on-line computer work. On-line class sessions will not be held. Students are expected to follow the daily instructions for activities to do and how to report work for credit. A daily report is expected by the teacher for full credit to be achieved. (Plan to spend 1-2 hours a day on the average.) (See Class Syllabus for more details)
Make sure you have access to an atlas for many of the activities these 7 days.
How well do you know your geography? Can you name the 7 continents? Do you know how to find a location in the world by coordinates? (You need to know how in order to use a GPS system.) Today we'll start some warm-up activities. As you try out some of these internet activities, you may have to stop and download some free plug-ins. These first few days will provide opportunity to get some of these "kinks" out of the way. If you have trouble, you may have to check your computer system and make sure you have a video card that will work for these activities. If it doesn't, you'll need to replace it with one that will work.
[Hint: Keep track of how you do on Activities 1-6 because you will email a report for Activity 7.]
Activity 1
This is for fun, but take advantage
of the opportunities throughout the activity to click on links to hints and
information on countries. These six challenging quiz questions are from the
